Hi Don,
I bring images into Aperture first (with copyright, a few keywords), with presets for AutoEnhance, Enhance (Contrast, Definition, Vibrancy), Sharpen, Edge Sharpen. I also have a slight color adjustment for images from my 1D Mark IV to bring yellows a little to the red side). (With images from 7D, my preset does not include the color adjustment). Any images that are obvious rejects, I delete. Then I back-up the newly imported raws to multiple external drives (alas, not Thunderbolt because I have a June 2012 MacPro that didn't include Thunderbolt). Aperture libraries live on an internal drive, backup copies plus multiple vaults on external drives. Then I fine tune the adjustments by playing with anything that needs to be fixed, mostly NR, exposure (esp. black point), shadows, maybe tweak Enhance settings, and maybe add Vignette.
Moving to LR, I import the new images from one external drive that has the raw files I just exported from Aperture. I don't have room to keep all the images on internal drives, so using LR always means I have one external drive powered on. I apply a preset with Presence (Clarity and Vibrance only), sharpening, and a small amount of post-crop vignette. I experiment with AutoTone, but usually do not use, Punch for added Clarity and Vibrance, and may do a IDIV color shift just as in Aperture. From there I may adjust the histogram segments or use sliders for highlights, shadows, blacks, whites, etc., adjust contrast, add NR if needed, lens corrections, check to see if camera calibration is better using something other than Adobe Standard. Fine tune sharpening. FWIW, keywords are imported with the files as they were exported from Aperture.
I wil check out your file sync application, it sounds useful.
