The good thing about living in the present is that no predictions are needed to realize that Aperture is clearly behind Lightroom in terms of badly requested features.

For me it's not so much that I feel Aperture 3 is lacking in major feature updates ... though I would welcome more ... it boils down to the uncertainty. Doubt, and a lack of confidence that your tools will continue to offer a viable solution that will stand the test of time, can do more to harm to a business than any other factor. Just look at the recent drop in market value of Apple stock ... Mr. Cook can attest it was caused by the so-called expert prognosticator's "doubt" about predicting Apple's future ventures ... nothing based in pure facts. In the absence of facts, speculation, whether positive or negative, will always win out.

Now I'm stuck between two worlds where the top two options for processing RAW images in quantity with ease ... both options have very dark clouds hovering above ... whichever entity comes forward first to remove all, if not most of the doubt surrounding their product will reap the harvest.

I really don't recall a time when business professionals had to beg vendors for solutions they were willing to pay for. Usually it is the other way around with an army of vendors fighting on your doorstep to make a sale. Strange times we live in for some matters.

This is my last try at trying to illumate you... You were the one that said "get bent"... Did you forget that? Did you cross the line and make it personal? Did you or did you not make the claim about me being adamant because I have a different view (recently arrived at by the way)... You made all of the initial offensive overtures and I responded. You seem to have a cherry-picking nature and run to the mods when you get a taste of your own medicine. Terence Delvin and LeonieDF are great sources of info here and I agree with about 95% of what they say but I do not have to agree with 100% of what they say. Others here have expressed the same amount of displeasure with the way that Aperture is functioning, have migrated on to LR but are still hopeful that Apple will quickly deliver a competing product. If you had the time to go and look up posts, you would also have seen where I have been hopeful that Apple would please, please, please, please listen to the pros as well as the non-pros and deliver a product that is as feature rich as LR. Must have been one of those cherry-picking sessions again. With that in mind, I will make it very clear for you. 1. I like Aperture but it is no longer, in my opinion, comparable to LR... 2. I do not really like LR but I find Apple has not left me with a viable choice... 3. I would buy Aperture 4 the second it was available... Surely this is not too hard for you to understand now...

Ding, ding, ding.... Spot on ButchM. If Apple would hint, tease, leak, etc... that we should just hold on a bit longer I would be over the moon...

You get the best post of the thread award in my book... I would love to go back to Aperture, use my NIK plugins and march on, but I am unsure where Aperture will be in the next 3 to 6 to 12 months. It is this uncertainty that is disheartening...

Peace love and understanding, Don. I didn't mean to get personal. "Get bent" is a beatnik Bart Simpson quote, and you, my friend are the very definition of adamant. Not sure how that justifies "foesad", but yeah, that kind of talk earns a trip to the mods, anyday, any time. You seem to be taking the extreme position of trashing Aperture and evangelizing Lightroom to your followers, certain there will be no future releases of Aperture (what I called claim chowder, to your chagrin), proclaiming it not "pro" because of certain harmless features, but all the while you'll be ready to pay for the next version? You do seem to want it both ways, and for other users its very confusing where you stand. Call it cherry picking if you want, but despite your best efforts to enlighten me, I can't make heads or tails of your position. You seem to love belittling people and trying to get them on your side. I hope life works out for you. You seem very angry. Maybe you need a hug. It's going to be okay, man.

Sorry, I know I said you could have the last word. I just got off the phone with my dying mother on Mother's Day, so go ahead and state your peace.

Adobe has shown their hand by going to an all subscription service for either their entire suite of app's, or for individual "professional" app's (i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.). They've also let the cat out of the bag that there's the possibility that the Creative Cloud version of Lightroom will get certain upgrades and enhancements that the retail version won't.

Adobe has received a well deserved beating because of their decision. Their announcement took everyone by surprise, and landed like a turd. Simply stated, for someone that only uses a single app, their pricing structure has no incentive for current users to buy into it.

As much as I think Aperture's organization leaves LR's Library module in the dust, LR's Develop module does a much better job. LR5 offers only a few enhancements (most of them really should have been included in LR4 or added as a dot upgrade).

We'll have to wait and see if Apple announces any major updates to their software at WWDC. They've definitely bee adding new software engineers to the iWork/iLife/Aperture units. It'd definitely be nice to hear something. I'll make my decision as to which one to use (LR5 or Aperture) after the WWDC keynote.

Likely an issue of going from an 18 month to a 12 month timetable for version release schedule. Sometimes you shoot yourself in the foot when you release offerings much too often ... it would be nice if Apple could adopt a happy medium ...

Either way, the new and "improved" features for Lr5 is very underwhelming IMHO.

Agreed ... if there isn't at the very least ... a sneak peek of something major to come later this year announced at WWDC ... it could cause extreme concern.

My wish for Aperture? JUST GET SOME EFFING thing OUT!!! Adobe is already working on Lightroom 5 for godsake. This is utterly rediculous. Good grief. I'm on the edge of gving up. Lord what a joke Apple has made of this program that revoluzied the industry and made Adobe have to realese Lightroom. Adobe certainly didn't waste any time schlacking Appe's *** and moving ahead. Comeon Apple. When the **** are you going to get off the pot?

May 16, 2013 9:41 PM in response to Jim Bridger

I love Aperture. It does everything I need today, however I am with you all on the uncertainty factor.

I heard through some circles that indeed their is another version of Aperture on the way, however I can't confirm anything through my research online.

Maybe Lightroom 5 has pushed back Aperture even further as they will surely want to smash that with whatever they come up with.

I am hoping that all will be revealed at the developer conference in June, along with new Mac Pros.

I can understand Apple's secrecy around new products, but for people that rely on these Applications for their work, it is just not good enough. Also, Aperture is not a new product, so why the need for secrecy. Just a statement from Apple saying 'We are bringing out a new version of Aperture in 2013' would surely be enough to stop the flow of people moving to LR.

May 17, 2013 2:43 AM in response to HC2010

FWIW, LR5 is more of a dot upgrade than anything else. Outside of the Radial Filter and Upright, everything else is simply enhancements that should have been in LR4.

Also, Adobe has let the cat outa da bag by advising that CC users will most likely get added features to LR that the retail users won't get. Adobe's decision to go to a subscription only plan is quickly becoming their "New Coke" moment.

May 17, 2013 11:54 AM in response to HC2010

My sentiments exactly. Just over a month ago I had given up on Apple and Aperture every being upgraded to compete with LR4, 5 or whatever number Adobe were up to when Aperture 4 came out. I had the LR4 beta running and even found a decent workflow in it, not as good as I have in Aperture, but the improved Develop module features and the great presets available for LR meant I was as good as sold. Then came the CC announcement and it scared me off. So, I'm back with Aperture 3, hoping that Aperture 4 is coming soon, and just having a lot of fun with my camera and trying to find new ways to make my average images look better than ever.

I have to agree that there must be some cause for your issues. I've been using Aperture for a very long time. I used to keep snapshots, iPhone snaps in iPhoto. But then moved everythig to Aperture. I have no issues with performance at all. Don't hardly ever see a beach ball, frankly I can't recall one, in Aperture. Now iTunes, often.

I have 8GB RAM. I usually have quite a bit open, including iTunes, and onOne Perfect Photo Suite 7.5.

Just hope you find the culprit. And I hope Apple hasn't forgotten about Aperture. I think we can see features for everyone it a program. That's what preferences and settings, are for
