How can I record my roland V-drums on my Ipad as I listen to tracks already there?

I want to make a few tracks in Garage Band (guitar, keyboard, bass) and then record my Roland V-drums along with them as I listen to the tracks. I want to use the audio out of the v-drums - NOT the MIDI. I'd like to do this with any generic line in, actually. What cables do I need, and how do I set this up in Garage Band? I have seen other posts allude to various methods but one question I have not seen clarified is: Will I be able to hear the other tracks on the Ipad as I play along with them?

thanks,

Paul

Take look at i rig. While it is built for guitar primarily, their schict is a device that provides an audio in throught the headphone jack, while you hear the output, i cluding the existing tracks, on the headphones. It works great with their app, and i understand the device works with garage band, although i have not tried. The app is ( or used to be free) because they want to sell you the connector.

Thank you, that did just what I wanted. It also works in GarageBand if you select guitar amp as an instrument. Select a clean amp for input and turn monitor on, and you can hear whatever you're piping in via the iRig along with the other stuff you have already recorded.

For those who do not know what the iRig is, it allows you to connect a 1/4" jack from a guitar or other device at the other end, as if the iRig were an amp. You then connect the device to the headphone jack on the iPad. There is a small female end on the iRig for a headphone to plug into. This allowed me to set up a bass and one other instrument playing on the iPad as I recorded my drums.

To record the drums, I created a track with the Guitar Amp as an input, selected a clean amp as the amp of choice (you can add effects if you like, but I just wanted as true a sound as I could get). There is an icon on the upper left hand of the screen that looks like a jack or a plug. Select that and turn the monitor on to allow you to hear the sound on your headphones.
