Leopard. snow leopard and Lion will not work on PPC Mac. Leopard is the only one that was PPC and Intel software. Lion is all Intel now, so there is no more update for PPC mac. Some of the software on the older ones are PPC so, if it is updated, the PPC mac software will not work.

Chaz; check your facts.

ron; Leopard can be installed on your G4, if you have enough RAM, and can obtain a retail install disc.

Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753).

If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:

MB427Z/A Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD

MB576Z/A Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD

MB021Z/A Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)

MB022Z/A Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (5-user family pack)

After you install the base 10.5, download & install the 10.5.8 combo update at http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update

okay, I know my fact, the person before me ask a question the software update, on iMac (17 inch Flat Panel, 1GHz), depending on the 17in, PPC or intel. PPC can only go up to Leopard, while intel can go up to Lion.

I know I have 17in, it can only go up to Leopard, plus it is slowing down when new software comes out or it doesn't work anymore. Lion is Intel software now, it will not work with PPC iMac.
