I cant log and capture my footage into FCP 6.0.1 Using my Canon HV20

Hello,

I have filmed several hours of video from two different cameras. One being a canon XHA1s, and the other the canon XHA1. Both use mini DV tapes. I am ready to capture the tapes into Final Cut verson 6.0.1 and I am using a canon HV20 to capture the tapes.

I have change easy settings and capture settings to capture the footage, connected the firewire, and so forth and I still am not able to capture the footage onto FCP. I have spent several hours on the phone and nobody has gotten it to work yet. Has anyone had this problem. I am working on 3 projects that I have filmed, and I need to get to editing asap!!

Anyone with any help can feel free post here.

Hi -

Step One: Both cameras you mentioned can, I believe, record both Standard Definition DV and High Definition HDV. You need to determine/verify what format is recorded on the tapes, and that both cameras recorded the same format.

Step Two: The HV20, has a feature that will allow you to downcovert HDV to DV at the firewire port of the camera. If you have shot HDV, you want to make sure this feature is OFF. See pages 41- 42 of the manual.

Step Three: If you have been making changes to the Easy Set Up or Capture Settings, while the camera has been connected to your computer, then there is a chance that you have corrupted you FCP preferences. Download (free) Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion:

and trash your preferences. Preference Manager will let you make a copy of your current preferences first, so if you want to return to them, you can.

You don't say what computer you are using. If it only has an FW800 port and you are using an adaptor to connect to the 4 pin FW400 port on the camera, you may have better luck using a dedicated cable with a 9-Pin connector on one end and 4 Pin FW400 connector on the other.

Also, Canon cameras do not function well when daisy-chained through an external FW drive. If your system includes and external FW drive, try removing it and see if you can capture from the camera to your internal drive.

Try this and if you are still having trouble, post back.
