Repair Permissions does not work. I tried that Lion OS 10.7.4. Version.
Excellent! I have been trying to figure out how to fix this for 2 days now. This fixed the problem immediately! Thank you!
Thanks Irene. It worked! What a relief:)
that's @irenefrombarrie thanks again.
Thanks @HOPEFUL777. It worked!
I'm having the same problem with the System Preferences launching, showing an empty window and then quickly closing. I'm in Library Preferences, but don't see the file you're referencing: com.apple.desktop.plist I'm using Lion. I closed Library Preferences and then try getting in with ~/Library/Preferences, but I get an error that I don't have permissions to use it's contents. I did a repair permissions earlier as a suggestion from another post. Did I wreck something? Any suggestions?
As I said above, I tried to repair permissions. Didn't help. Also tried to delete the com.apple.systempreferences.plist. Didn't help either.
My solution turned out to be a corrupt profile. Created a new one and deleted the old one. All is better now.
The same exact thing happened to me last week. I tried force quit a few times, disk repair, but still it did not work. I just came across your post and tried this. Thank you!!! All back to normal! :-)
Thank you so much, I had the same problem driving me crazy all day. It worked and all is good. Thanks so much.
Thanks alot! I had the same problem. I found the file, deleted 'com.apple.desktop.plist', restarted, and system preferences is working perfectly now. THANKS FOR THE INFO.
Grateful
Steve
