I want to sell my macbook pro with lion. How do I prepare it for sale?

I have a macbook pro 2009 model that I want to put up for sale. Can anyone provide a link or describe how to erase all my data and basically get my macbook pro like it was when I bought it. I would love to be able to sell it with Lion installed, but how do I do that if I downloaded it.

I used super duper to clone my macbook pro hard drive so I got the backup part done, just need to know how to prep the computer. Thanks

You will not be able to sell it with Lion as the version you have is linked to YOUR Apple ID...

See Here for

To prepare a Mac for Sale.

Boot from the original OS installer disk and do an Erase & Install.

When the Mac reboots into Mac Setup Assistant you quit and shut it down.

When the New Owner Boots it up it's a brand new Mac... just like when you got it.

Can you give me another way to sell your Mac (that did not ship with Lion) with a fully functioning Lion installation already on it as Csound1 thinks should be possible. Note that if you have to tell someone it is sarcasm, it loses all entertainment value.

The only method anyone has come up with (which would be legal) is to a) wipe the drive and reinstall the original OS, and b) purchase the $69 Lion USB thumb drive from the Apple store - that should work since the purchase is not recorded by MAS. Give that to the buyer. Other than that, the SLA is very clear.

Good point I hadn't though of, but it would be cheaper to discount the Mac by $30 and point them to the Mac App Store.

Before you sell your computer, you probably should deactivate your iTunes Store account through iTunes/Store/Deauthorize This Computer/. If you don't, your old computer will show up in your iTunes/Account Information/Apple ID Summary, where there is a button to "Deauthorize All." To make things easier, unauthorized it before you sell it.

To learn more about what your apple id is tied into, go to appleid.apple.com.

You also spoke of Adobe products. If you installed the Flash Player Plug-In, you can deauthorize that to @ system preferences/flash player/advanced/deauthorize this computer.

Well, my post is late in the game, but with CS4, YES, you must deactivate it prior to removal. If you wipe the drive, and don't deactivate, when you or anyone else goes to use CS4, it will tell you (and I've been through this), that it is unable to activate as it's licensed to another computer. This happened when my Macbook crashed and the harddrive died. I was crap out of luck of being able to reactivate CS4 on my new macbook Pro
