Hello, i am having trouble streaming my home videos via an Xbox 360 to my TV and thats because it only recognises WMV or WMA files so i was wondering if there is a converter , preferably free,I can use? I dont know what format my videos are in as Get Info doesnt reveal it .I assume they must be Mpeg .Anyone got any suggestions?

How did these files get from the Mac to the Xbox exactly?
you mean how do i connect to Xbox? I use Connect 360 which is programme that supposed to allow me to stream audio pics and video from a Mac ie it fools Xbox into thinking my Mac is Windows .Works fine with my iTunes library ( bar the short video i bought and downloaded) and with all iPhotos.I can also watch TV programmes which are basically repeats.All five of our main terrestrial channels offer what we call catch up tv which works through a computer.With Xbox we can pick up two of them. It just seems any video i make myself or have bought via Itunes that is the problem.The annoying thing is i cant contact Xbox as their site seems to have crashed.

If you are referring to the TV prorammes they work on my tv not computer as i can no longer use adobe flash as it doesnt support Tiger any longer.I am not sure how one finds out what Gb they are 😕 I get the home page and what programmes are on but without flash they dont work on my Mac
Oh, I don;t think the filesize limit matters for streaming, just if downloading.
Have you got one less than 4 GB on your Mac to try?
Yes i mentioned the video file i bought in Itunes. "Get info" tells me its an MPEG4 with a 46MB size.That wont stream either
File format compatibility continues to improve with each major update. On the video side, H.264, DivX, XviD, MOV, AVI, WMV and ASF are supported. Movies and shows purchased from iTunes won’t play at all.

Looks as though looking at that list that unless I can get a video converter that will actually work with this Mac, then i have no chance have. Finding compatible software is becoming increasingly difficult, another bugbear of mine 🙂 Anyway many thanks for your help

Hi Itried that programme but it wouldnt respond but I found VLC .When i tried that iI got the following message "VLC does not support the audio or video format vdva.Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix it " Never heard of vdva
Hmm well i got partial success because it suddenly occurred to me try Quickstep so now i have the same file but slightly smaller and VLC recognises it.Prism does too but cant see what a list of conversion options.Help is just a blank page,I pressed convert but aborted as i have no idea what its converting to
Is this one in VLC an Apple/iTunes one? I suspect that codec is some proprietary scheme, see last post here...

Do you have QT Pro? Can you somehow re-encode with different Audio?
Thing is the audio file must have changed in the quicktime version because both prism and VLC recognise it whereas they dont the iMovie one.Problem now is i dont quite know how to do the video conversion in Prism.When i press Help I get a blank screen, no how to do or a list of codecs i can convert to.I think they are wanting me to but the programme but unless I know it will work i am reluctant to do so
