Hello, i am having trouble streaming my home videos via an Xbox 360 to my TV and thats because it only recognises WMV or WMA files so i was wondering if there is a converter , preferably free,I can use? I dont know what format my videos are in as Get Info doesnt reveal it .I assume they must be Mpeg .Anyone got any suggestions?
That site says it doesn't install anything on your computer, you just have to upload to it. There is a FAQ for reasons an encode may fail. I notice there are various subscription levels so it you are going for free you may be at the bottom of the priority list.
WMV is a proprietary Windows format so there aren't many encoders for it, especially not for converting to it on Macs (on any Mac, even a brand new one). You may need to install one of the payware variations of Flip4Mac.
Do you need to convert the file or just watch it? VLC Media Player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html) has been able to open any media file I've ever thrown at it. The current version for 10.4.11 is 0.9.10 from 2009 (http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/0.9.10/macosx/vlc-0.9.10-powerpc.d mg). Probably the most up-to-date 'diverse' media player for 10.4.11.
No I clicked on some link on it by mistake , then i noticed the Choose file button and went from there. The free one you mention only takes about 100 mb so conversion stopped dead because my iDVD file (which is compressed from an 7GB Imovie file)is over 500mb. Tomorrow ill try one of the other options but I noticed they only have a limited time span.I am wondering if that means I cant actually store the converted file for use whenever I like As for Flip4 Mac ,I used to have that but it no longer supports Tiger

"Note: If you are running Mac OS X, version 10.4 or earlier, please download Flip4Mac WMV 220.127.116.11
That may be so but I cannot think what. When I tried playing either a home made video or one I doiwnloaded via iTunes I get this message : "cannot play this content because it may not be supported . For more info go to www.xbox360.com/support.Then, status code 69-C00D002F
The xbox site is experiencing problems at the moment so cant access it but i know from trying before, that putting that status code number in their search box revealed nothing.I also wondered if the particular codex my video clips are in is one that is not recognised by Xbox but have no idea what it is .Get info doesnt reveal that
