reduce the size of icons on desktop ?

hi all, this might seem like a strange question, but please bear with me.

On the desktop of my MacBookPro i have found it a very good place to keep my most often used shortcuts, BUT, the main problem i have, is the Large Icons, that a shortcut displays, i have found i can resize them smaller, but this also changes the text size and the length of the visible text.

Can i perhaps use a diffent much smaller Icon instead of the large default icon "@ HTTP"

and of course how can i DO IT ?. please

Don't know if you can do that without some 3rd party application.

For my shortcuts or files I use often, I drag an alias or move files to a folder in the dock. I use the list view for easy finding. That way, I don't have to clear other apps or files out of the way to get to an icon on the desktop.

Open Finder, close all finder windows. From the menu, select View, the scroll to SHow View Options. Change icon size there.

Or, in the Finder, keyboard (command-j). Close any open finder windows to show icon resizing.

There is another way. Command-click on the desktop by clicking once on your desktop while holding down the control-key on your keyboard. When a menu pops up, click on "Show view options." Adjust the slider under "icon size" until you are satisfied.

thanks for you suggestions lad and/or lasses, BUT No No, I know about that option to change the size of the icon, making the icon smaller by that method simply truncates the text underneath, perhaps i didnt explain myself very well.

I was hoping that i could replace the icon with something the same width but of NIL height so that all my shorcuts could be stacked up on top of each other and all still be perfectly readable ?

is that perhaps a little clearer ?.

In View Options for the Desktop, if you set the "Sort by" selection to "Grid" and then adjust the spacing wider, when you reduce the icon size the filenames will not get truncated.
