Thanks too.

It works for me too on my iMac G5 (Leopard installed)...!

And I thought since last year it was hardware problem on graphic card... I was one of the unlucky with soldering problem on videochipset on iBook G3. Repaired with resoldering.

The computer was in the closet for one year...! All datas were backed up with Time Machine and transfered easily in a Powerbook G4.

After the spring big cleaning I moved it out and start thinking again...

Thank you again for your post RCCharles !!

I thought that when you reinstall the OS with option Erase and Install, all was erased, it seems to not be the case, Extensions were dated from 5 years ago..

I saw that Quartz Extreme is no more handled, as previously in Safe mode, is it important ? For now I saw no differences.

Is there a way to get safe new ATI extensions scripts ?

I got some answers here (it lacks one extension of ATI Radeon 9600 graphic card in Leopard vs Tiger) :

Actually the all the Extensions appeared now again but now dated of 2009....!!!

Those are the steps I made :

1. I managed to have a OS reinstallation completed of Leopard with the DVD in booting on it (press C key just after the chime)

2. Boot in Safe Mode (press Shift key just after the chime)

3. Archive as specified by RCCharles the ATI Extensions in folder ExtensionsDisabled

4. Reboot in Normal mode (I saw Extensions ATI absent, Quartz Extreme not handled)

5. Software update cycles

6. New ATI Extensions appear again in System/Library/Extensions

Quartz Extreme is handled again, everything is back to the normal, it seems. And I have not made too difficult or risky manipulations inside the System files

Bad news...! It lasted one day. After been back in sleeping mode, the awake didn't went well...

Display freezed.

Now no boot even in Safe mode, no boot process completed with DVD

I tried and try again. I forgot it was so erratic during its last days one year ago...!

I removed the motherboard, cleaned the dust in the cooling conduct to the processor.

By the way, I made replaced all the electrolytic condensators of the motherboard and power supply three years ago... They were popping... But the serial number didn't match the Apple extended warranty plan... however same problem...! One year without problem after.

I think some hardware real problems in the video area for my iMac G5.

I hear the HD or DVD sound and continue to work but display freezed...

I'm too unlucky with the 2 Apple computers bought brand new since 2001. The only computers without any problems are the 2 Powerbook G4, one old iBook G3, I bought already used, 2-3 years aged...

Perhaps it's the product screening only real solution...

I think that you have gotten all you can out of this machine.

I've heard of people re-flowing the soldering on the video chip, but if the machine doesn't boot in safe mode this doesn't point to the video chip.

The may be other forums on other sites for a more indebt hardware analysis.

Your work pointed out to me that I left out a a step or two in using the safe mode driver. You need to change permissions the files to move or run from terminal.

Thank you for attention Robert,

umh, everything goes well (sleep/awake cycles are ok) for 2 days (after some fails to OS reinstallation, it passed, and Software update), but in Safe mode without extensions for now...

Therefore no sound output (means iTunes) and no Graphic Core (?) (means no iMovie).

But it works, it can be useful. The computer is already 8 years old...

All is backed up in Time machine, in case I would try again in normal mode just to be sure...

If soldering imperfection there is, it should be microscopic and underneath the chip anyway, and beyond my capabilities.

Regards.

David
