Hello,
Noticed recently that when I now listen to music on my iphone it gives a signal in the top left corner that seems to tell me that the phone is connected to my network and is using data. Is this usual as I dont seem to remember it happening before I signed up for icloud. Any ideas. Thanks for any answers.

The top left hand corner is just the signal strength, it has nothing to do with whether you are using data.
The iPhone only uses data while playing music is when you select a song thats on iTunes match and not already downloaded to your phone
Sorry, didnt mean the signal strength indicator. but the signal that goes in a circular motion to the right of it which is to the right of it nect to the 3G letters.

Yes. And it was a pain to get it to work and sync my songs properly. I got it when it was released in Canada.
Stupid internet connection made me look stupid.
Then what is happening is it is pulling songs that are not on your phone but in the cloud so they can be played. If you don't want it to download music off itunes match then disable it under Settings>Music. It will not delete what is on your phone. You can turn it back on again at anytime.
Ok I'm new to this itunes thing.I believe the songs I put on my phone is using up data.How can I stop this??I was under the impression once I paid for these songs that I would have the freedom to listen to them whenever and wherever I wanted without it counting against my data.

Your impression is incorrect.Downloading anything over 3G, even things you already own, counts toward your data allowance. Songs that are stored locally on your phone do not use data when you listen to them.
Ok even if I am at home doing this over wifi??My question was really about being out in public. I put some songs on my phone. I was out walking when I got a text saying I had used 90 % of my data. This lead me to believe I was using up data while listening to these songs. Are you saying this is not so??
Where are you accessing these songs? If you are going to the Music app then that is downloaded music - no data used. If you are going into iTunes and listening to music which is NOT stored locally in the Music app, then that will cost you data, unless you do it over wifi. When you refer to having "put some songs on your iPhone", most people will presume you mean that you have downloaded them and they are stored locally on your phone.
I should add that if you are actually downloading songs to the phone over any connection other than wifi then that too costs you data but it is only a one-off cost once the download is complete and the song is on the phone.
This is what I did.I put iTunes on my PC and purchased a few songs.While at home my phone is connected to wifi.I also added some files to my library from my pc.So yesterday while I was out in the park walking I tapped the music app that I believe was preinstalled and hit play.About 30 mins or so into my walk I got a text stating that I had used 90% of my data.I was shocked because I thought once I purchased these songs and they were on my phone I could listen to them wherever data free.I did this because I originally had Pandora on the phone and I knew that would use up data listening away from home.I hope you can follow my thought process.LOL
Well then something else is using the data.
It's not the playing of the music.
I'll look into it through my wireless provider.Thanks for your assistance 🙂
