Excellent catch - worth testing some more. Windows definitely does not like forward slashes in names, and neither does Linux (Ubuntu). However MacOS SL allows them.

But, from my testing, if the metatag has a forward slash, both the Windws (XP) and MacOS (SL) iTunes will add an underscore to the name when downloaded. I'm guessing it's done on MacOS as well, just for compatibility reasons with Windows systems in case you decide to copy things between them.

@the OP, I would still suggest changing the metadata to something without a forward slash, and also a lot smaller (like "Test1") just to see what happens when you attempt to re-download.

I get this error message on just this one song from the album.
Haven't had any problems before with iTunes Match.

Just so you know "Check for Available Downloads" returns there are no items available for download.

iTunes tries four times (each time the circle fills up fully) and then displays this error message.

After that i can try again to download from iCloud and get the same behaviour.

I'd take iTune's word for it and assume the file somehow has become corrupted. I would suggest two things.

(1) try to play the song on the computer where it is stored locally (where you uploaded it to the cloud from) Just want to be certain that your copy will play.

(2) delete the song from your library and the cloud (just highlight it, hit the delete key) When asked if you want to put it in the trash, say no. When you are asked if you want to delete from the cloud, say yes.

(3) go to the store menu and select Update iTunes Match.

(4) go to another computer or iOS device and confirm that the song no longer appears (you shouldn't even see the title, not grayed out, just not there).

(5) go back and add the track back in to your library, hit update iTunes match and watch the progress bar to be certain you see the track title appear - this will help you confirm that the file is actually uploading. Sometimes iTunes match just re-links to the old file in the cloud and that's sure not what you want!

(6) see if the track will play now.

"check for available downloads" only has to do with purchases you made. I don't think it's relevant to the issue you're describing.

Sorry I should have mentioned that the previous suggestion to take the slash out of the title still applies. I would rename it by doing a get info. on it in iTunes before I turned Match back on and uploaded a fresh copy.

I get that error -50 regulary for albums which I have purchased from the iTunes Store on my iPhone. Later on my Windows Notebook the album songs start automatically downloading and I get that error for one or two of them. On second or third try it works eventually. I guess it's because my iTunes Media folder links to an network drive (latency problem?). The download itself seems to work because I always see the progress bar going to 100%, but then the save-to-disk operation seems to not work sometimes, which seems to cause the error -50.

That worked perfectly. I used to get the message "This item cannot be downloaded. The item you have requested is not available for download".

Hopefully, Apple will go one step further to tag those items in the cloud and have iTunes automatically do the steps you provided as I have about 10 songs to fix and theses steps are quite tedious. I would also suggest they provide the following message once they have implemented this tagging scheme. "Unfortunately, the item can not be downloaded. The item has been flagged to be restored. Please use your iTunes repository of music to resolve the problem".
