FCPX hiccups during transitions - help!

Please have a look at this movie - http://vimeo.com/34601706

First, you must know I am a complete novice and am fairly sure this problem is with me not doing something right.

This was created in my trial version of FCPX. Every place there is a transition, the movie gets hung up. This is apparently not a Vimeo problem because the exact same thing happens when I burn the movie to a DVD (which is how I initially found the problem). Here is what I am doing:

  1. Bring clips in (via FCP import) directly from my XA10 to an event
  2. Create a new project, link it to the event and let FCP decide the format based on the format of the first video clip brought into the timeline (1080i, 60i - FCP converts 60 to 29.97 and I would love to know just how it does this and what the ramifications are)
  3. Drag in my clips and transitions, and bring in a music track
  4. Render the entire thing (which seems redundant because FCP seems to begin rendering automatically whenever I make a change in the timeline)
  5. Play the timeline from beginning to end within FCP, and note that it runs perfectly
  6. Then, using the "share" pulldown, either send it to Vimeo (as 1080i, 29.97) or burn to DVD (automatic settings)
  7. See that the exact same problem occurs with each one

OK, where am I going wrong? If you need more info, just ask for it. I am not sure what you might want to know, so I am being lazy and not listing every detail I can think of. Thanks a bunch for your time considering this.

I have not yet tried to go back to the vid I posted, but I moved on to some others (albeit shorter ones) and have had better luck with Compressor to do the video formatting (respective of whatever medium I intend to use - DVD, vimeo, whatever). Your question has motivated me to go back to that vid and see of compressor does a better job with it. I will report back when I do. Probably a few days to get to it.

OK go to my vimeo site - (accessible through the link in the OP) and check the new "XA10 test" vid. It works great. The resolution is slightly off from original footage, but the transitions are working and no more hang ups. My hunch was correct. Compressor did the job - I used "send to Compressor" (which I know many on here say not to use, but for me it seems to be working well), and then format the video with one of Compressor's templates. Half hour later I was uploading it to Vimeo.

Hope this helps!

Hey, I've had similar issues with FCPX and 1080i/60i. And come to find out 1080i/60i is not 60fps, it is 30fps. Only 1080p/60p is 60fps. So Final Cut is not converting your file, it just really is 29.97fps.

If you look, you should find some articles on this issue. I was a little surprised myself, but in a nutshell they are taking only half of the information from two frames to create one. That's where the 60 comes in.

So this maybe why I'm seeing lines in some of my outputs from 1080i/60i.They use many different lines from the two frames to create the one. I'm not sure yet.
