Font Book...what do the dots by the font names mean?

Frustrated with fonts...

Im dealing wiht Fontagent Pro and Font Book and from what im finding, Font Book makes more since to be but need some help...

In Font Book, some of the font names have dots, what does that mean?

Also in the All Fonts folder is of course all the fonts but that doesnt mean they are being used. For this i have to drag all those fonts over to the Computer folder...correct?

so is it better to drag and drop fonts into that directory manually or pull them into the fontbook?.

Also, when dealing with a TON of fonts, is fontbook ok to work with that or should something else be used like Extensis or Fontagent? Both i have used and are overly confusing. Fontbook actually makes since to me
