What does "File Sharing" mean for applications in iTunes?

In iTunes when I click on the "Apps" page when managing my iPhone or iPad there is a space that says "File Sharing" - The apps listed below can transfer documents between your iPhone and this computer.


What exactly does that mean? For example, I have the application 'Errands' (which I love, btw) and it is included as one of the file sharing apps. If I download the Errands app for my Mac will the information be transfered (all of my errands) automatically?

It is simply a way to add documents from the computer to the iPad.

That is the intent though how the data is transferred between application is up to the app designer.


Some data (such as PDF files) are not application specific.

You can use apps on the iPad or the computer to view/edit them.
