How do I attach photos to emails?

I can't add photos as attachments in emails. When I send pictures, they cannot be saved or stored in MS Outlook.

How can I send them as attachments as I did with my old 3GS?

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.0.1

Yes, I'm using an iPhone 4S with iOS 5.0.1, as is the other poster in this thread. Also, no one else has reported this issue in this forum, so the problem is either in your phone, your Outlook, or user error.

No, I am not willing to give you my email address to test this.

Do the following troubleshooting steps for your phone.

1. Sent a photo via email to SOMEONE ELSE. (Surely, you know someone....) If it's attached to that email, the problem is in your Outlook. Contact MS for advice.

2. If sending to someone else doesn't work either, do the following troubleshooting steps as needed, as described in the iPhone User Guide, Appendix B:

Restart phone

Reset phone

Restore in iTunes using a backup

Reset settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings)

Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup

Admire your perseverance modular747, but remember what the OP stated: "Yes, the picture is there in the email - embedded - NOT as an attachment" and "It only sends them as email [meaning in the body of the email] that are not recognized by Outlook as attachments."

To me that means there's nothing wrong with the 'sending' and nothing wrong with the 'receiving,' since the picture can be seen in the receiving email. Unlesss the OP claims the picture is one of those trick graphics that convert a picture into text characters, it arrived there as a picture attachment. Email protocols do not have any other method of transmitting pictures (short of embedded web server links).

If there's something wrong it's with the OP's ability to save the picture outside of the email, but he did not specify what he does to accomplish that task (drog & drop?), so...

Good luck to both of you.

Perseverance is right!!!

Ok, I have now confirmed with 3 other email users that the photos are only in the body if the email. There is no actual attachment. Same with my work email. No attachment.

These are regular pictures, nothing out of the ordinary.

3GS is on 4.0.1.

With the email received in outlook, if you go to "save attachments", the list is blank. There are no attachments. One friend said that in his email the "save attachments" was not even highlighted to be able to click.

I wish one of you had a generic email address to send a pic to to actually see what is happening. This may seem like I'm being difficult, however, I just want my phone to work at least close to what my 3GS did.

Kind of like going to the doctor and he doesn't believe you when you tell him something.

No one is more frustrated than me by this!

I've sent another picture email from a different mail account on the same phone. First was gmail and this is yahoo. Same exact thing. I have 2 different laptops in front of me and my phone. The received message has the paperclip, but there is no attachment. The picture is right in the email body. Even if I click on the picture in the email, it doesn't recognize this even as a picture.

I'm lost... looking for an experts opinion. Are there any settings on the phone that could be wrong or changed? The odds on the 6 different computers all not being able to receive the picture as an attachment are astronomical to say the least.

The received message has the paperclip, but there is no attachment. The picture is right in the email body.

If the email has the paperclip there IS an attachment and it's DISPLAYED in the body. Did you read my last post entirely - you need to troubleshoot your iP4S as it's incorrectly attaching the photo so that the attachment won't detatch correctly.

Exactly! That's what I have been saying! There is something wrong with the phone or the way i'm sending emails.

But, i'm doing the exact same thing 100% as I do with the 3GS except this phone will not do it. This is what I have been saying.

With that said, i've reset all settings, restored the phone, completed approximately 20 hard resets and still, nothing.

I'm at a loss. I envision Apple to just act the same as the forum and blame Outlook...

Sorry if I come across wrong. I'm just really disappointed that i've spent so much time trying to troubleshoot something that should have been perfect out of the box.

Oh yea, my battery last approximately 2 to 2.5 minutes for 1 % of battery on 3G. Nice...

Restore the phone AS NEW, without using a backup. If it still not working, go to Apple for warranty service.

BTW, where are you located?

No one participating here is from Apple. Since your posts were so vague and incompletely described what you did and what happened (took 10 posts and 1 day to get it straight) as well as no one else seeing this issue, it remained unclear as to what happened, ..

2 to 2.5 minutes for 1 % of battery on 3G.

If your're referring to 3G data (once again, no info), the official spec is "up to" (depending on signal) 6 hours which = 2.2 minutes/ 1% charge. RIGHT ON SPEC! If you meant voice, the spec is up to 9 hours, or 3.2 minutes/1% charge.

Is this not an Apple website? No one here is from Apple? I had no idea... No wonder...

I had a completely different post typed...

I'm truly disappointed that the battery is so blatantly weak and yet they state how amazingly long the battery life is. Well, maybe. So long as you don't use the phone.

As an aside. I just emailed with my wife's 4S. Perfect picture attachment! Yes, both phones set up exactly the same and purchased at the same time.

Guess I have many more hours of "fun" trying to set up a new phone and a fight (i'm sure) at the Apple Store.

Thank you to all that have sincerely tried to assist with helping with this problem without prejudice. It is truly appreciated.

If you had read the forum Terms of Use you agreed to when you joined, you would already know that this is strictly a user-to-user tech support site and Apple doesn't participate (or even read most posts)/

The battery life is just fine for >95% of users, and if you're getting what you said, right on spec. Since there are no comparable phones that do even nearly as well, what's your problem?

Thank you to all that have sincerely tried to assist with helping with this problem without prejudice. It is truly appreciated.

You're welcome. Good luck restoring and setting up your phone.

Congratulations on awarding yourself "Correct Answer."

Don't worry, you're not going crazy Torinate, I've had the same issue.

After a LOT of testing, we finally found the solution. In order for images to send as "actual attachments" on iPhone 5 and not embedded, you need to ensure your signature is basic format, no BOLD, no italics, no hyperlinks, etc.. The downside is your (basic format) signature will also be converted to an attachment in the form of a TXT document. This and not being able to embed my HTML signature with my company logo are my two least favorite things about iPhone.

ALSO, if you are taking a picture, make sure the volume buttons are facing down or it will send upside down.

Apr 8, 2013 11:31 AM in response to gbumoon

I'm not sure the signature is the issue. I have an exchange server email account and a POP3 I use on my iphone 5 on current ios. The POP3 account behaves as you'd expect. The exchange server account behaves as described by the OP.

I had an italicized signature on the Exchange server account and thought, "Yahoo!", gbumoon solved this frustration. I changed the signature to get rid of the italics. Nothing changed. I deleted the signature entirely. Nothing changed.

I can really do without the self-aggrandizing replies that seem only to boost the number of posts enumerated under one's name.

How about ONLY those who know what they're talking about reply? Wouldn't that be novel? Finally, something different on the interweb...

Apr 8, 2013 12:29 PM in response to Highbandwidth

Well here I am - at least doing what I asked - since I know exactly what the problem is, just not how to solve it...

For a solution, we must go back to GBUMOON who had it exactly RIGHT.

I had to DELETE the old signature entirely, close settings, (on my ipad only - shut down and restart), then write a new signature with NO italics, bold, underlining, font changes, or anything else. Now attachments are attached as they should be.

Kudos to GBUMOON!!!
