iPad 2 rapidly losing battery life

Over the last couple of weeks, my iPad 2 has been losing large chunks of battery life while it is closed for long periods of time. It can lose anywhere from 5 to 12 percent while closed during a 6 to 8 hour timeframe while in the past it would normally only lose 2 to 3 percent.

This didn't start happening after I upgraded to iOS 5.0.1 and I always exit out of every app when leaving my iPad closed for extended periods of time; I also run the battery down completely once per month. It just started happening out of the blue. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? If not, do you have any suggestions? I'm wondering if this is a widespread problem before I take my iPad to the Apple Store. Thanks!

This same thing just started happening to me a few days ago. I'm definitely not as savvy as others are about the iPad but I can't pinpoint anything that has changed on my iPad. The only thing that I've noticed is that my iPad has been losing connection to my wireless router at home much more frequently so I don't know if re-establishing connection is what is draining it and if this even happens when it is sleeping (I'm guessing not). But it is disconcerting.

I've noticed the same thing happening to my iPad 2 .

I had charged the battery life to 100%, wifi wasn't running, and I wasn't actually using my iPad at all for a couple of hours, until I decided to play some music from it. The music was playing for all of 10 minutes when I noticed the battery life had decreased to 88%! That cannot be right!? It has never decreased that rapidly before. If anyone has any other solutions, please let us all know?

I have also noticed the same thing happening. My iPad 2 is only 8 months old. Doing fine in the battery life area until recently. Couldn't see what had changed except the latest upgrade of 5.1

So, any nonsense of turning anything off, on, to sleep, etc etc is just that... nonsense. Any thoughts, ideas, walls to beat heads against would be appreciated. 🙂

Does your iPad also take a pretty darn long time to charge?

I went to the Apple store and they gave me a new one finally. I tried charging and using Airport mode for an entire day. It still died quickly. I turned off "Open on Smart Cover" option, thinking that it was turning the screen on while in my packpack... still no luck.

Charging on my iPad had risen to about 12 hours total, and the device would rapidly deplete battery as soon as i unlocked it following a 100% charge.

Be warned: the Apple Rep may plug it into a battery voltage meter. Mine showed up at ~94-95%, which is inside their range of "Acceptible capacity". I argued for a new iPad regardless, because in the 1/2 hour I was at the Genius Bar the battery % had risen from just 2 to 3%. Obviously there is a hardware malfunction or something that is doing this to the battery.

Go get a new one from the genius bar!

If you are asking a general question, I will answer. I am not sure about the charging question - I will pay more attention. I do know I am very tired of it discharging faster than my iPhone does on any given day. I am very aware of the Genius Bar at the Apple stores; I like the way it is handled with making appointments and their time is your time when it's your turn.

Thanks for the advice and support.
