Quicktime Animation Render and Obsolete Grid Effect... Bug?

Hi everyone,

I think I have found a bug for the first time in my life. Here's what's going on:

I created a Keynote presentation with Keynote 2 and then opened it in KN3. If I hit the Play button all is well looks awesome and I love the way Highlighted bullets now dim slowly instead of popping off.

Here's where the weird stuff starts.

I am rendering the 10 Keynotes out as Animation 60 Frames per second (so that the text effects are really smooth for video) I am using them for a corporate video. All looks fine right up until the last transition. I use the Grid Effect "UP" for the first transition into the presentation and the Grid Effect "DOWN" for the last transition out of it. The "UP" looks exactly like it should, the "DOWN" looks really funky, I would be happy to include a picture but I don't know how, maybe if anyone is interested I'll post a quicktime to my .Mac account.

Anyway, here are the settings I am using:

Playback Control: Self-Playing Movie
Slide Duration: 5 Seconds
Build Duration: 2 Seconds
Repeat: None

Formats: Custom:
Video: Full Size
720 x 540

Compression: Animation

Motion:
Frame Rate: 60
Key Frame Rate: 0
Data Rate: 0 KB/sec

(Key Frames and Data Rate are set to Automatic)

Millions of Colors / Best

No Audio

During the render it all looks fine in the little preview window but then when playing it in Quicktime it looks like the Grid Effect chokes at the end and does NOT look like the grid effect should. I am probably going to have to use Keynote 2 and combine the 2 versions of my presentation in Final Cut Pro. It's just weird what is happening. I have tried different effects and they seem okay but just this little simple (yet obsolete 😉 effect isn't working right. Looks like someone left something out of the code on this one. Hopefully it will get resolved quickly.

Let me know what else you need from me and I'll be happy to accommodate.

I have tried this on 2 machines and still have the same problem. Also a fresh, clean install on one doesn't fix the problem.

Oh yeah,

I forgot to mention that another weird thing is happening.

Keynote 2 renders the Quicktime export to a file size of 3.61 GB
Keynote 3 renders the Quicktime export to a file size of 1.07 GB

I have 10 animations, all identical to each other as far as content. Here are their relative sizes when rendered to Quicktime with the settings stated above:

Movie 1:
KN2: 3.61 GB
KN3: 1.07 GB

Movie 2:
KN2: 1.96 GB
KN3: 829.6 MB

Movie 3:
KN2: 2.52 GB
KN3: 576.9 MB

Movie 4:
KN2: 1.81 GB
KN3: 627.7 MB

Movie 5:
KN2: 2.37 GB
KN3: 863.7 MB

Movie 6:
KN2: 2.34 GB
KN3: 847.7 MB

Movie 7:
KN2: 1.8 GB
KN3: 717.8 MB

Movie 8:
KN2: 1.23 GB
KN3: 591.3 MB

Movie 9:
KN2: 3.17 GB
KN3: 1.05 MB

Movie 10:
KN2: 1.35 GB
KN3: 551.1 MB

Any Clues?

Thanks.

I just hope someone at Apple reads this post and fixes the export functions in KN3. Either fix the export functions and allow them to work or don't give us the option.

I created Presentations in KN2 and 3 and have exported them using the animation setting at 60fps so the motion would be smooth. Took them into Final Cut Pro, edited them together (wading through MUCH affliction mind you) and took them into DVD Studio Pro (All software is current on a Dual 2.7 G5)

I have had nothing but problems, from exporting what looks fine in KN2/3 and getting badly rendered effects (grid effect mainly) and seeing a LOT of artifacts on an ANIMATION render. In FCP I mark an inpoint and it is MINUTES off once I edit it into the timeline, I have to use the Slip/Slide function to get it back to where I wanted it orginally. (By the way, my sequence settings are set to the exact same as the render settings in KN2/3)

Obviously what I am doing is a little more than KN should be used for but I see a few other people who have tried something similar. This should be an easy way to make nice presentations that are very professional, but in the workflow I have described above, it just doesn't work. I wish it would and I think this is something that Apple should look into so that the basic functions of what I want to do can be accomplished.

If anyone at Apple would like to contact me and hear everything I have done so they can address these issues I am available.
