MacBook Pro won't sleep

My MacBook Pro is not sleeping as set in the energy saver preferences. It will sleep the display but something's keeping it awake. It sleeps fine when the lid is closed but it's impractical to keep flipping it up and down... Every once in a blue moon it does sleep and I marvel at how and why but the other 99% of the time, it's got amnesia.

Any ideas??

Thanks

Try Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

Mac OS X (10.6.5) < your profile

If that is correct, there are updates available from your Apple menu > Software Update...

following the "solved" solution didn't work for me, then i deleted the printer from the Print & Scan system preference. That didn't immediately work (i hadn't restarted at that point). I then moved all the preferences associated with printers to the desktop (same as deleting them, but you're backing them up too).

i.e. removed any com.apple.printer..... preference and any com.epson..... preference (i only have an epson printer.

I then restarted and it FINALLY (after years) sleeps with the lid open

Thanks guys

had the same problem, tried extra programms etc.

not a computer geek, so had no idea how to delete mentioned files etc

I could not click on "open printer status" (in German as on screenshot: "Drucker-Warteliste öffnen"), it did not open so I couldn't clear any outstanding print jobs there...

For those guys who have no clue, my simple solution:

(my system runs in German, not sure what the exact name of the things are)

- switch off your printers/scanners

- go to sytem

- select printer and scanners

- on left side see list of your printer(s)

- do a right click on one of them

- choose "reset print system" (last option mentioned)

All printers/scanners will be deleted.

Then switch your printers/scanners back on.

Click on the + to add them again, and they will appear and add them back to your list.

Worked for me!

Good luck!User uploaded file
