I'm going to call (i cut the dang tip of my middle finger off and its a daunting task to type!!!) but i have a friend that works at the AT&T store and is an apple nerd, so i'm going to call him and see if he can assist. i'll make sure i post back when i'm done. i'm so afraid to delete my iCloud account because this 'warning' message pops up that says something terrifying. i just can't believe that apple 'makes' us use this iCloud and gives us enough storage just to hold a thought, and the price to buy more is crazy.

The message is not terrifying, but it reminds me that some people are foolishly working without any backup, is that your condition?

I'm chiming in with the same issue, and I wonder, does this have something to do with iTunes?

After upgrading to Mountian Lion, I discovered that any purchase I'd ever made from iTunes (dating all the way back to 2002) had the cloud icon next to it. I didn't think about it until I discovered I was getting messages about getting close to/had surpassed my iCloud data limit, now I wonder if that's the issue. So I'm downloading 350+ songs and a leaving a few tv shows in the cloud. We'll see if this makes a difference or not.

Do others have lots of iTunes files hanging out in their iCloud?

Background • I only have a MacBook Pro (no iPhone or iPad), and I don't photo stream or anything like that. Systems Preferences > iCloud > Manage shows that I have:

  • 1.3GB of Mail
  • 4.8MB of Pages Documents
  • 325.8KB of Preview Documents
  • 229.6KB of Numbers Documents
  • 0KB of Backups (I use an external HD for backup)

How that adds up to 23.68GB of data (which is what iCloud tells me I'm using) is a mystery to me!

I called Apple about this issue but the tech support person didn't answer my question ("How can I be using over 20 GB of storage space if everything iCloud shows I'm storing only adds up to 1.30522GB?!") he just gave me 5 additional GB of storage so I have a limit of 25 rather than the standard 20GB. (I've been a .Mac/MobileMe/iCloud customer for at least 10 years.)
