How do I reduce what is being stored in Icloud on my phone, mac, ipad, etc?????????
On your ipad go to settings/icloud
Then scroll down until you see storage & backup, select it.
In there you can manage any data taking up icloud storage.
Sorry, I am looking at my iphone and when I select storage and backup, I get how much available storage and the option to buy more. I am not going to buy more, so I don't know what I need to do. Why can't I see what is actually being stored and the option to store it or not? When I see other peoples tutorials, theirs show options to backup or not on each item being stored.
Under storage it should show:
Total Storage
Available
Manage Storage
If you select Manage Storage it will display all data saved in icloud and allow you to delete it.
Do you not have that option?
Like Tjfinley I do not have the option you are referring to; my screen only shows available storage and a button to buy additional storage.
I am really getting to regret turning iCloud on at all; it has done nothing to help me and has cost me literally 40 or 50 hours of down time trying to figure out how to undo something the mighty iCloud thinks it should do without asking or without sharing consequences.
Honestly, Apple, you have made a mistake here.
What is stored in your icloud?
If you are thinking about contacts, calanders & photo stream these do not account for your 5GB free icloud storage.
LukaMac, you have just asked the question I would like answered: what is stored in my icloud?
I have not reached the capacity limit yet, but it is growning, and I can't find a way to answer what seems like a simple question.
FYI, I have been an Apple user since the gen. 1 Macintosh and I am not a "heavy" user, I do not have any videos, I do not photo stream, I am not a gamer, I'm a professional man who would like to use the MacBook, and iPhone, and my Mac desktop as tools to create solutions in my work a day world. Simple things like syncing more than one calendar and contacts, would be very nice. But what I have now is chaos, multiple contact listings that seem to add themselves randomly.
Here is another seemingly simple question: what is the frequency of the iCloud updates for the hardware that is associated with a single account? Is it instantaneous (No it is not.), is it every minute, 5 minutes, etc. can it be set by me the user? I can't find a way to answer that question, either.
Do you have any advice if I want to switch off iCloud and revert to pre-iCloud system? I can really use some helpful advice, thanks.
You can back many things up to iCloud into your storage space. Documents, apps etc
Contacts,Calender dates, and photo stream do not however take up any space in you storage. These are also not visable under the manage storage section in iCloud settings on your device.
You may not have even saved anything to the iCloud storage space yet which could explain why it is not possible for you to view the manage storage section?
Contacts/calanders/photo stream are separate to STORAGE
I think iCloud sync's when accessing apps that work with it.i don't think it has set intervals, not sure though.
Sorry I can't be any more help than that.
its driving me mad too! i have an ipad and iphone, ive turned off documents and data, stopped photo streaming, and now i can't update my apps on iphone because storage is 'full'. i dont have email and i dont do documents.
I have the same problem.
I received a warning todayom my mac, that my icloud storage was low. I checked and of 55 gig, I had used over 54 gig. I was not permitted to purchase more. Is it possible that the data has "bloated"
I would like to examine the contents so that I can prune the excess. I have "drop box"', so presume I could move some contents to this back up facility.
Advice please
David Thomas
I'm going to call (i cut the dang tip of my middle finger off and its a daunting task to type!!!) but i have a friend that works at the AT&T store and is an apple nerd, so i'm going to call him and see if he can assist. i'll make sure i post back when i'm done. i'm so afraid to delete my iCloud account because this 'warning' message pops up that says something terrifying. i just can't believe that apple 'makes' us use this iCloud and gives us enough storage just to hold a thought, and the price to buy more is crazy.
LukaMac: What you said is Not true,
Contacts/calanders/photo stream are separate to STORAGE.
I had 876 photos and tons of emails. I ran out of space in icloud. Deleted the photos and I got all my space in icloud back.
Please do not post things without verifiying, though you are only trying to help people.
thank you....
I am having a similar issue; I am out of storage on iCloud and it looks like it's all from my email which I do not need to be backed up on iCloud. How do I stop backing up email? I think that would solve my storage problem.
my email has been suspended because I ran out of storage space in icloud. I've since cleared out all my email to give me back space, but my email is still suspended. does anyone know how to fix this?
I regret switching to iCloud. It is total crap
I have the same question. How do I see what is stored on my icloud and then how can I remove items from my icloud?

Coversely, iCloud does exactly what it claims to for me.
Honestly Apple, you have done a terrific job here.
