Are iPad and iPhone built in microphones mono or stereo?
That's my question.
That's my question.
Hmmm...interesting question. I dont think Apple specifies this in the IPad tech specs, but I'm quite sure it's mono (which is really better for what you'd be using it for).
That looks a bit more worth the money for the product on the developer's website! 😁
How is that relevant to my question?
He assumed that you were hoping the mic would be stereo. As I said, though, for most use cases, a mono mic is just fine (or even better). What use do you have in mind. The only situation in which a stereo mic would be better is if you're going to record a stage or room full of musicians playing. If you're recording voice memos, or even recording yourself playing a single instrument, a stereo mic is unnecessary.
That said, we still haven't completely resolved whether the built-in mic is mono or stereo. The tech specs on apple.com don't specify, but I am 99.9% certain that it is mono.
It is a suggestion of a more pro quality mic that is definitely stereo for iOS devices.
The ipad mini definitely has a mono built-in mic. this is useless for those of us who are musicians recording performances to upload to youtube etc.I made the assumption that Apple, like on their macbook pros, would have had enough foresight to include a stereo capable mic. Now I have to find other resorces. Very Very disappointing!
Get a Rode iXY or a Tascam iM2 and quit crying.
Nice suggestions. My tears dried, after all, when I found out the protocol for most tablets out of the box was mono. The Rode looks good. I would be surprised if the Tascam comes close, considering the price difference, but I'll check them both out.
