Iphone 4s sending text messages as my email adress.
When I send a text message from my iphone 4s, others receive it as a text from my email adress. Has anyone had this problem and fixed it?

go into settings, messages, receive at, caller id and change that to your phone number.
Turn your imessage off and on again. I had to do the same thing. Then do what markfrumnull said.

This fixed my issue.
At first, I would go into "settings -> messages -> receive at" but there was no "caller id" sub-field. Once I signed off, and then turned iMessage back on, I was able to go to "settings -> messages -> receive at -> caller id" and select my phone number as my caller id
Hi,
I am having a similiar issue but a little differant. I like texting my home email becuase I will text reminders to myself to do things. Well when I try to do that i am not recieving the emails. I signed off my Apple Id then it wouldn't even let me hit send on a text to my email. I got a message saying "Can not send message This person cannot be reached by imessage at this time." What can I do to fix this?
I have this problem. I went to messages>send/receive and I removed my email as an option. My phone number is now the only option, but I am unable to check it for some reason. Any suggestions?
Before upgrading to os7 on my iPhone 4s, I could iMessage fellow iPhone users and text to non-iPhone users -- including messages to email addresses -- particularly my Own (for sending myself reminders, contacts, photos, etc. with my older Mac). I also check my email on my phone (sometimes).
Now, I have to have iMessage 'turned on' in my iPhone Settings, (signing in with my Apple ID) in order to be able to iMessage iPhoners.
Unfortunately, this now this prevents me from sending messages to my email address. Instead, any message I send from my phone to my email bounces right back to my phone as a message -- and doesn't go to my email account at all.
I know, some of you have cited this same problem. I, too, went to settings and 'unchecked' my email address as recipient. But then, as someone else also mentioned, a message sent to my email was now 'undeliverable'.
I tried all variables: signed out of iMessage, signed back in, checked and unchecked, even tried to delete my email address from the 'Send & Receive' (but got the message 'this email address could not be removed). I turned off and on the phone in-between efforts, too.
Now I cannot even sign in anymore: get the message 'An error occurred during activation.' Looks like I'm stuck using regular SMS for everything. Can't use iMessage at all now.
Apple? Can you fix this?
update: iMessaging just started working again for me between iPhones -- but still won't let me text to my email account.
so that's the bug: how can I text to my email address (like I used to)
update 2: okay, I just tried something else. This may help others: In settings>messages, iMessage is turned on (even tho it had errored earlier). Send as SMS is on, too (altho that still didn't allow messages to my email). Send & Receive is set to Just my cell number. BUT I saw that MMS Messaging was off. So I turned MMS Messaging on. Then I sent a test to my email address and it went thru. I even replied to my phone from my email account and that, too, was received on my phone as a message.
Y'kno, I think I tried this earlier -- turning MMS off then on -- so it may be the Order in which these things are done. Either way, it is now fixed for me... for now...
this is slightly different to the other posts - and you're reading because they did not quite work?
I have iphone 4 running ios 7
settings - messages - send and receive
you probably see your email address selected and cannot delete it
that's as intended - you only need to deselect it
click on your apple ID - but no need to sign out
then you can deselect your email address
i have tried these fixes and can not still send other than text no i message
this isa new phone 4s replacement.my messages show up as emails to many and others justas a text
ok so i had the same problem, all i did was went to "settings"- "messages"- send & receive then sign out with your apple ID, back out and then go back in. Sign in and it will give you the option to uncheck the email address. That is what worked for me.. all is back to normal now
Turning SMS off and on again seemed to work for me... thanks
