Canon MG5320 -- Can't print wirelessly from OS 10.7.2

I cannot connect wirelessly from my 3.06GHz MBP OS 10.7.2 to my new Canon MG5320 printer.

The Canon IJ Network Tool software you are supposed to use to set this up isn't able to connect to the printer via my WiFi network.

I've upgraded the firmware and driver, entered WPA password and settings correctly, and there's no firewall or other access restriction issues on my WiFi. The Canon IJ software can detect the network and also the printer (when connected via USB), but seems unable to pair both.

In my System Prefs the printer only shows as available when connected via USB. Canon phone and online support wasn't able to help at all. Any hints?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

You don't use the Canon IJ Network Tool to add the wifi connected printer. With the MG already connected to your wireless access point, you add the printer by opening Print & Scan, clicking the plus button and selecting the Default Add Printer view. Do you see the MG5320? If you do, select it and watch the Print Using menu. It should automatically find and add the MG5300 series driver. Does this happen?

I was facing the exact same issue with the MG5320. Here's how it got resolved for me:

I shut down my Mac, Printer and the router..."all of at the same time", in this order. Then I brought them back on one by one - Router, PC and then the printer. Everything wireless with the printer is back on - from the Mac, iOS devices and my Windows laptop.

Earlier, I had tried to reboot these same components, but never at the same time. I believe one of the compenents was always on. It didn't help with the issue. Shutting it all down and in that particular order somehow reset something on the network/router and now it's working fine. I had also tried updating the firmware to 2.020, and updating the drivers. That didn't help either. But I'm not sure if, in the end, it had some part in resolving the issue.

It also resolved a minor issue I was having with my iPad connecting to the wireless network everytime I opened up the smart cover. I would have to switch the Wi-Fi OFF and ON on my iPad. Now everything is working just fine wirelessly.

Just my $0.02...might be helpful for someone out there!!!

(BTW, credit goes to the Canon support staffer. I followed his instructions to a T, however stupid it sounded when I was actually doing it, but in the end, it worked!)

Just read through this post trying to determine why I could print but not scan wirelessly. Here was my fix:

In the Canon Quick Menu application, you wil see a printer and scanner at the bottom of the screen.

Double click the scanner.

On the dropdown menu, there will be options for "canon mg5320" and "canon mg5320 network" Select the network one and voila! you are able to print wirelessly.

I have exactly the same problem. Canon say its a BT problem. BT say its a Printer problem and Apple say its a network problem if it isn't the printer...

I have an old Epson Col Styl 760 that I bought in 1999 that still works but I can't use with Lion...I have my old macbook with 10.4 so it's going back up, at least I will be able to print stuff. I've spent hours trying to make the Canon work to no avail. The Canon is going back to the shop..it's crap. I'll look for an Epson.

😠

I have just solved this exact problem with an MG5350 10.6.8 Snow Leopard and a BT router. I went through all of the steps suggested (mainly by PAHU) but had the same results as true777. The thing that finally worked was resetting the printer itself by going to printer's menu and selecting device settings > reset settings > reset all. I then downloaded the latest MG5300 printer driver for mac from the canon website, ran the set up which takes you through connecting the printer to the router, and then adding the printer from the network and it all works fine now.

I guess the BT router is doing something that prevents connection to the printer but this is the way I reset it. Would be glad to know if this works for everyone else.

Greetings Pahu et al. I have the same problem: OS 10.6.8 won't print wirelessly to Canon MP568 suddenly (was working fine, now can't 'see' the printer)

I have tried what you and others recommend above, but all my Macs (one iMac and 2 macboks) seem to have lost the ability to print to my Canon MP560 series, which were all printing happily a few days ago, while my PC continues to print fine.

Seems to be a communication error. The printer first showed as idle though it was printing fine from the PC at the time. Then when I remove it from the list of available wifi printers in the print dialogue box (Sytem Prefs --> Print and Fax), it does not re-appear when I click oon add printers. Strangely, I can ping it from the iMac so they are 'connected' via the router...

Everything is connected wirelessly and I do not share/use a mac as a network printer; everything is connected directly to the router, including the MP.

The only thing that has happened in the past week or so is that Mac support re-installed iTunes on the iMac as it was not syncing with any of iTouches (conflicting error messages, one iTouch froze and said it wouldn't unlock for 46 years haha). But I am assured nothing chnged the internet / printer protocols.

So... This is what I have and what I have tried.

Printer:

- Canon MP560 series

- IP address 192.168.1.8 (from printer LAN info and pinging from iMac)

- Subnet mask 255.255.255.0

- Default gateway 192.168.1.254

- LPR protocol is 'enabled'

- Bonjour is 'enabled'

- Bonjour LPR service is 'disabled'

- Have rebooted after unplugging

- Have accessed its internal web page of the MP (network configuration) via the iMac's browser. I can see under advanced network settings that it is connected to the correct router, uses WPA2 same as the iMac, uses IPv4 same as the iMac, and the IP address, subnet mask and router IP are all the same as the iMac (automatically collected)

Router:

- Billion (supplied by aussie telco)

- Also rebooted

- IP address 192.168.1.254 (double checked by pinging from two machines)

- Has been working fine for a couple of months

iMac

- OS X 10.6.8

- software updated and rebooted

- Airport working fine, no probs accessing internet, same with all mac devices in the house

- Ran network utility. Shows hardware (airport) address: d8:30:62:62:a4:eb

- IP address 192.168.1.11

- Link status is active

- Successfully pings the MP, Router and iMac using their IP addresses above

- Was printing wirelessly to the MP until 2 days ago, no settings have been changed

PC

- Dell Latitude

- Printing wirelessly to the MP, no problems

Where to go next?

Thanks.

Ok this is weird, the problem has fixed itself. *Sigh*

Maybe someone out there saw my post, reached in to my home network and hey presto wave a magic wand and all the little germlins disappeared. Wouldn't that be nice!

After spending a few hours on this, typing up that long (sorry) query to help the wonderful people who run these forums... I cleared the MP and all other printers from all of my macs, and when I came back to the iMac and looked for the MP... sure enough there it was! Everything seems to be working fine now.

I have no idea how this annoying 3 day problem managed to fix itself. Thanks anyway to Pahu and the OP who started this off and showed remarkable patience 😁

Ok, so I have had so many problems with this same printer. I found out that after I installed new drivers on it via USB connection on canon website, I was still having trouble. But what the update didn't do, I realized, was delete the old Mg5300 printer, with its' dialog box and other software my computer was trying to access as a preset default. There was actually a new one installed under "MG300 (2)." I had to go to preferences and set each different browser and other program that was using my other "printer" as the default. I dunno if that might be the issue for you at all but I thought I would share.

@Endless Projects and possibly @AbhiTula FTW!

SOLVED.

I had the exact problem of the OP.

I followed all of the steps on here.

I reset my printer and router (not my computer).

What finally did it was the Reset All function.

(And for techies curious: when I did WPS again, it found a completely new IP address....one which I was actually able to ping. Weird.)
