iTunes keeps asking for my password twice each time I launch it!

Hello there guys.

I know it's probably not a real malfunction but it's nonetheless annoying. Each time I launch iTunes it asks for my iTunes account password, twice. Does anyone know why?

If I log out of the iTunes store it stops asking me but I didn't have to do that in the past.

It's still happening with iTunes 10.5.3 and I can't seem to get rid of it any other way than the one described above.

Is there something wrong with the preferences maybe?

Thanks for any tips.

Henning

Jason posted a reply to my question earlier referring me to an Apple support article:

iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases

Unfortunately he seemed to have deleted his post again. However. The trick explained in this article seems to have lifted the curse. iTunes is not prompting me for my password all the time anymore.

I want to thank Jason for his help 😉.

Cheers,

Henning

I'm not sure if anyone else has still been having this issue, but it appears that I solved the pesky password pop-ups (twice everytime I launched iTunes) by deleting the preferences file and restarting iTunes:

userfolder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist file

As a reminder if you're on OSX Lion, you can access the invisible Library folder by holding down the option key while going to the "Go" menu while on the Finder desktop.

Hope this helps someone else. It drove me crazy for months!

Sigh, yes the problem came back after after a few days. 😟

I have noticed something interesting: it never happens when I have Wi-Fi turned off.

I'm wondering if this issue is related to having multiple iTunes Libraries? I have two on my mac, one for home and one for work (to sync apps for testing and devlopment). Does everyone else here have the same set-up?

I can't say something about multiple iTunes Libraries. I have only one. But I can honestly say I got the password problem with both WiFi turned on and turned off. So I don't think this has anything to do with it.

I was able to resolve this problem by opening the Preferences in iTunes, then on the Advanced tab clicking the Reset Warnings and Reset Cache buttons:

User uploaded file

I then quit out and opened iTunes again. One of the side-effects is that it will slow down the iTunes Store temporarily (at least when I was viewing my Wish List), while it rebuilds cache, but other than that, it solved my problem.

None of the solutions described in this tread worked for me, but it seems to be a bug in connection with Safari cookies as described in this tread (solution described by 'Livebox', thanks a lot). This woked for me:

I disabled Safari to automaticaly 'Remove all website data' - this worked immediately on both my machines.

iTunes keeps asking for my password twice each time I launch it!
