Im having trouble making bookmarks

In order to make a bookmark the help suggets I select text and click the + button in the inspector, but no matter what text I select, in a new text box or existing one, the + is greyed out.

Also Im not able to change the colour of hyperlinks fromt he default colour in the template via the styles palette - also greyed out - is this by design?

Yes, this is the same in Pages (I've now found out). You can make a bookmark of text in the main layer of text in the "word processing" mode, but not at all in the "page layout" one.

Very disappointing. So, If you have a Section text field (as generated from a template), you can bookmark any word. However, no images, tables, text boxes, or text within text boxes.

Virtually useless if you ask me.

I don't think it's useless, you just have to accept its limitations and work around them. As an ePub book there's an expectation there'll be a text flow on the page. I don't see it as a major drama as you're most likely going to want to direct someone to some text. I agree it would be nice if it could be linked to a non-flow box, but I don't see it as a huge drama - it still lands you on the page you're aiming for.

I may have spoken too soon. I figured out how to make a bookmark on a page, as I said, and then I created a hyperlink from one page to that bookmark. However in Preview of the book, the hyperlink does not take me to the bookmark on the other page, it simply blinks.

What am I missing?

and a secondary question - have you found any control of the colors/format of the hyperlink?

I had a breakthrough today. I figured out how to link from text on one page to an image on another page. This isn't bookmark linking but using label styles. I created a tutorial using ScreenSteps to walk people through it. Seems a dearth of tutorials so far!

I'm betting my link won't come through, so just in case go to podfeet . com and in the menu bar you'll see Tutorials. Click on that and pull down to "How to Link from Text to Image in iBooks Author".

Here's the link in case it works:

You are correct.

If you can't add a bookmark (for the reasons stated in this thread), you can add an image or a textbox and place a label on it in the Widget tab of the inspector. You can then create a hyperlink to that object.

I recommend adding a textbox, defining a custom label and adding the label to the object, add the page number to the label area, make the entire textbox opaque, and finally move the textbox to the top of your page you want to link to pushing it up so you can't read the label. Once you do this, you have an invisible object on each page that you can link to.

Cheers!

I used this same solution and it does work in iBooks Author mode - but not in preview. Do you know if there is a special tap or text size that is necessary?

For instance:

I created a band of buttons (one image)

I created block images over each button

I assigned a hypertext link in each image using a 16 point text

Then I change opaqueness of text to 0

In iBooks Author - it "jumps" to the page of the hypertext link (which is to an image)

In Preview mode - it will sometimes jump, other times, pop-up window, other times, crashes!

Thanks for any help. KB

Just a note to the Apple staff that I hope is monitoring the discussions. The ability to do hyperlinks (either web or bookmarks) from within tables would be very helpful. For example, I use the glossary for more technical terms but have some annex tables with more general information that I want to link back to the text. Not doable, unless I reformat the table into regular text.

Seems like others would like some of this additional flexibility.

Hi guys,

I'm trying to (re)generate hundred of crosslinks for my ebook for iPad about "Pro Tools" audio system (original in LaTeX, converted to HTML, imported on Word, published for Kindle in novembre 2012) and it seems to me that bookmarks are bugged: in portrait mode when i click on the link, I jump to the correct position, but in landscape mode (fixed layout) the book jumps on the wrong page, two pages before!

What to do?
