Powering up without battery

Hi all

I've got a 2008 MacBook Pro 15" which the Apple Store have determined has a dodgy battery. I will get a new one of course but I can't get the machine to power up with just the power supply. I've removed the battery and held the button down for 10 seconds as advised but nothing is happening.

Anyone have any hints or tips please?

Best wishes

Mark

Same issue with my late 2008 15 in. MBP. Never had problem, except for swollen batteries, until this spring, about 2 months after install of new Apple battery from Apple. Machine died. I took it to Genius. They tested MBP without having battery in. They told me bad logic board and told me to buy another computer. Having had a Mac since the late '80s I sensed this was not the problem, and that the battery was the problem. Next day, MBP turned on. I used it for about 3 months with same battery until it died completely. I think that the new crop of refurbished Apple batteries have put our trusty, still useable MBPs out of commission. Apple will be of no help. They want you to buy new machines. And, after all these years I can honestly say, these forums are painful.

i have a MB pro from 2008,

and my track pad has been giving issues for a while, not realising its because of the battery I have never replaced since buying my mac in 2008. we are now in 2015 and took my mac apple in lake side, and got the best service ever.

first of all the battery was swollen after all this years and because of that it wont allow the back pack to close. causing the track pad to loosen a bit.

so I now have to but a new battery from ebay or amazon as apple has now stopping stocking battery for our vintage book.

I was told that in the mean time I can use my mac without battery but forgot how to turn in on. so hence why I am here today so thank you for that, above, I tried it and it work, I am soo happppyyyy
