Apple does not monitor these forums. If you have a suggestion, I recommend you leave feedback about it using the form in this link

I suspect that the processing required for a touch screen happens at too high a temperature for plastic.
Besides, if they used plastic we would have a lot more posts here complaining about scratched screens than we currently have complaining about cracked screens!

Any plexiglass, even with expensive coatings and such, will never be as scratch resistant as corning gorilla glass. It is very near synthetic sapphire in hardness, something no plexiglass sheet will ever approach. It also has much greater stiffness than a thin sheet of plexiglass, and I too doubt that a plastic would work well for resistive touch screen (at least, I've never heard of a resistive touch screen made with anything other than glass).
Thanks appreciate that tip!
Well I figure with the price we have to pay for these things they should be a little more sturdy. As high-tech as Apple is there has got to be something they could do to make them more durable. More than half the people I know have cracked screens guess they just don't bother to complain about them...What's the point anyway!
Well there is a first time for everything... I bet someone figures out some way to do someday... Technology is always ever changing and the next big thing is always better than the last
Did your screen break to? mine broke today after falling of my lap.. it fell exactly 1 foot and broke! What The CRAP?!?!
Do you really think you are the only one who tiought of this? Apple spent a lot of time nd money fnding the absolute best material for the job.
FYI, the glass used on iPhones and iPads is specially formulated to be not just scratch-resistant, but also to be very strong. According to Corning, who invented the glass, it is over 20 times stronger than any plastic.
It it the same for ipod touches cuz mine broke from sliding off my lap while sitting down... 😕

This is the problem with extrapolating personal experience to generalized statements about a product that has been sold in the many millions in dozens of countries around the world. I have several family members, many friends and most of my co-workers have been given iPhone 4's and 4s's as their work phone, and not one of those people that I know with iPhone 4/4s phones has ever had a front nor back screen break. So from my perspective, you and your friends are the extreme few, the complete opposite of your perspective.
