My wife recently reset her iPhone 4 and lost all of her saved voice mail messages. She was able to retrieve messages from the past month. Though she really wants to recover some messages that were up to a year old. These messages were from her mother who passed away in the end for December. Does anyone have a suggestion on how these can be recovered?

Usually, Voicemail messages are held in the phone company servers and these messages expire after a certain period of time (usually 14 days with AT&T). These "expired" messages are deleted automatically from the servers at the phone company and they cannot be recovered. The iPhone itself cannot save this messages on its internal memory.

So my wife freaked out this morning. She realized that the voicemails she had saved from her mom had been deleted off her her phone as we upgraded her from an iPhone 6 to a 6s. The good news is that I had been doing backups of her phone, locally on her computer through iTunes. I browsed this forum and found this post, with the positive reviews of this application:

I downloaded the free trial and discovered that I could easily browse through all of the iPhone backups I had made, even the encrypted ones (with the password to decrypt the backup, of course). To my wife's delight, every voice mail that was on her phone had been saved, all the way back to 2012! With the free trial she could listen to the messages, but not export them to files / iTunes. The $40 price tag to license the product was well worth it, as I was able to easily select the voice mail messages and save them to a folder on the Desktop. From there she could rename the messages to something meaningful, and then they could be imported into iTunes for long-term retention and easy playback.

I recently changed carriers from At&T to Cricket. I noticed everything stayed on my phone except for the saved voicemail, how do I retrieve them???? I downloaded a program on my laptop called DR Fone but that did not work, I tried restoring my phone from my last back up which I did right before I went to the Cricket Store, and that did not work either. Help?
I have a question was that a phone that had service that you got the vmails or was it a iPhone that has service? Because I have a iPhone that don't have service and I deleted a vmail and it didn't go into the deleted messages or anything
I understand that they are purged off of the Carriers servers, do you know if they are "saved" anywhere on the PC with iTunes on it? Thanks for your response!

Thank you, I will give it a go! Because, I can't see why they would delete off the phone when you change a sim card.

Does anyone know if I can access my voice mails from my iPhone backup on iCloud? I do not backup to iTunes.

Were you a previous subscriber to visual voicemail? We were not... and from reading iExplorer's support forums, it looks like that might have been the only way to recover them.
