Ram upgrade

Hi All,

I'm new Macbook usesr. Two weeks before I bought a Macbook Pro (Late 2011) in India, It is working fine but Its very slow when I use Windows hosted on a VM Ware. So I'm thinking of upgrading the Ram.

I have a couple of questions..

1. What is the maximum size of RAM that can be upgraded (8 or 16 GB) ?

2. What is the price of apple RAM. Can I go for other brands ?

3. My nearest apple authorized center (Chennai, India) told me that its possible to upgrade to 8GB kingston RAM. Is that recommended ?

4. Can I upgrade the RAM on my own. Will it affects the warrany (1 year limited warranty)

Please advice on this...

Thanks in advance !!

1. 16GB's Max.

2. Price varies, have no idea about prices in India. However, Mac's are very picky about RAM. Here's a good place to look for prices & brands:

3. You can put up to 16GB's in your computer, but 8GB's provides the best price/performance ratio.

4. You can upgrade on your own & it will not void your warranty. Very easy to do with the right tools. The link I provided you also has complete instructions with videos. They also tell you the proper tools you'll need.

I'm confused whether it is a PC or an Apple RAM.
