can't ssh from Lion to Snow Leopard

Even though 10.7.2 Lion's Network Utility says port 22 is open on my Snow Leopard machine, I can't ssh to that machine, and I can't even ping it. Why would that be? Any suggestions?

iMac Intel, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Getting rid of every trace of the Intego stuff wasn't easy, but I did it. While I was at it, I also deep-sixed a bunch of old apps that had survived thru several generations of Migration Assistants.

When I was finished, I could ssh from the Snow Leopard machine into the Lion machine, but not vice versa. I could ping the Snow Leopard machine from Lion, but I couldn't see an open port 22.

I found out what was listening to Snow Leopard's port 22 by running

lsof -Pnl +M -i4

I discovered that the port was in use by Microsoft PID 19696. Activity Monitor identified that PID as belonging to Microsoft Excel 2008, which my wife was running. (I don't have MS Office on the lion machine.)

Looking into this, I discovered that MS Office runs an Antipiracy Protection Agent on that port.

No, it looks like Microsoft Office Mac 2008 was NOT the culprit.

This morning I used the latest version of Koingo's MacPilot to clean out

/Library/LaunchAgents

/Library/LaunchDaemons

~/Library/LaunchAgents

~/Library/LaunchDaemons

It was the last thing I removed, "Google Keystone", that did the trick. Keystone is the auto-updater for Google Chrome, and seems to run in an infinite loop, watching every few seconds for updates out there on the Internet tubes. Killing this has not disabled Google Chrome.

Now my Lion machine can ssh into my wife's Snow Leopard machine, and she can ssh into my machine, even when she is running MS Office components.

Whew!!
