Trying to find copyright and trademark symbols

Hello Chris,

I have the German keyboard, so I can tell you copyright is on [alt+g] and registered is on [alt+r]. But this can all be different on other language keyboards.

You can find all shortcuts by opening the System Preferences and choosing the panel "International" (with the blue flag and the earth on it). There click on the right tab button "Input Menu". Activate in the top section of the list field "Keyboard Viewer" and at the bottom of the window activate "Show input menu in menu bar".

You see a flag in the menu bar. Click on it and choose the item "Show Kayboard" or something similar. Now you can press any key on your keyboard and you will see the chars for the shortcuts you press in the little keyboard window.

If you are searching for very special characters, which are not on the keyboard, open the "Character Palette" over the flag in the menu bar. There you will find every character you have on your computer.

Pages has a unique way of dealing with some of these symbols:

1. Open a Pages document.

2. In the Pages menu select 'preferences'

3. Click on the auto correct tab and check the box 'symbol and text substitution'

4. Check or uncheck the items you wish Pages to autocorrect or not. For example, typing (c) will result in ©. You can even add your own shortcuts.

One beautiful, I can't live without it, donationware is Textpander. With this app you can make hard to type sequences into short easy to remember phrases and this works in every app on your machine. For example you could type the word copyright and Textpander will change it to ©.

Go to your System Preferences and select the "International" pane. Select the "Input Menu" tab, scroll down the list, and put a checkmark in front of "Keyboard Viewer". Before you close the preference pane, put a checkmark in the "Show Input Menu in Menu Bar" box. Now the Keyboard Viewer will always be available in the menu bar near your time display.

BTW, the trademark symbol (™) is generated by simultaneously pressing the "alt" (sometimes labeled "option") and "2" keys. Alt+R generates (®) and alt+G yields (©).
