mac mail disappears

I did a pram reset and then all my mail in the Mail program is gone. I was able to recuperate two accounts but not my primary account. under ˜/library/mail there are only folders for the two I recovered and not my mail folder. Why is this? It has actually never been there...

Someone please help me to recuperate my email. Why does this happen?

Thanks

Could there be a problem since two accounts are from the same domain name?

No, the domain doesn't matter; it's the email address that makes the difference.

Any ideas?

Try looking inside both of those account folders that you found and see if there's another one inside of either of them. If there is, move it out into the Home/Library/Mail folder.

Yes, I have tried this as well. With the EasyFind I even loooked for my email address and found only the one folder for the info@ my domain name instead of myname@ my domain name. I even searched through that tool invisible folders and still nothing.

I am going through each emlx file and cannot find listed ANY of the emails i received today or yesterday from the disappeared folder account. I am stumped.

😕

Here is an update:

I could find nothing by the EasyFind search, then I went to the finder and looked for invisible files and again nothing. BUT I did go to the mail folder WITHIN the Mail applicaiton and option-clicked on that and went to the bottom of that menu (I am translating from french here) and went to the "obtain the account information" and there I received a list of 99 messages from the POP server.--it is a list which shows me more than the files on my server (I have Mail delete them off the server after 1 week) but here I can see them all dating back before one week but I cannot see Where are they? I have no idea...

I tried importing them and they disappeared again...

Now I am simply trying to create anormal pop box for Mail and I am beginnning to think that Mail is not such a great program. I have now created a proper in box (still losing all my email from the past seven months) and then on the sent messages it no longer makes seperate sub lists for each of my three accounts from where each each mail was sent.

Why?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Yes, I did this. But I am still trying to figure out where all my previous 700 emails are since this folder did not exist before and my mail folder for this account was nowhere to be found in any searches. Unless there was something made invisible which I did not do, I have no way of getting to my old mail files.

I thought saying what Mail did while creating this new account might help. I have two accounts on this domain.com and maybe that is why it created an odd folder. But what might this mean as for the location of my first invisible file?

thanks again!

Nope, that's not it. You could have 100, or even 1000 different accounts on the same domain and it wouldn't make any difference. It's the address (the part before the '@' sign) that makes the difference. As for the location of that "invisible" but supposedly working account, or those emails, I have no idea. I'd be inclined to say you deleted them accidentally, but I'm just guessing, based on the results of the searches you did with EasyFind.

Using Occam's Razor, that would be my conclusion. I can try asking someone who's smarter than me and see if they might be able to help, but I can't guarantee anything.

No I never deleted these files. I know computers--both mac and pc--inside out. I redid my account and the file was STILL invisible. I had to manually set this up. But when I lost all those emails all the new emails I recieved were unfindable with EasyFind or any other search engine. They are still on my computer because I have done nothing to my system. Now I was forced to recreate the account or move to another mail program since, as I mentionned, the first mail account never appeared in its own folder.

Why is this? Because, perhaps, when I first created it I made it as imap and later made it pop? I have no idea other than this. But those 700 emails cannot have just vanished. I have not emptied my trash and I used Mackeeper to find all deleted files and no mail files came up. So they are ostensibly on this computer... where I have no clue.

I have read a few other cases of people losing email like this, also with two accounts from the same domain.com... But no resolution has been found I think. I am extremely troubled by this because I cannot continue to use Mail if every four months it is going to eat my mail. And I did not have so much mail...

Thanks again.
