Logic Studio upgrade 8 > 9/X: an open question to Apple

Dear Apple,

As a staunch Apple enthusiast, I need to submit a question about Logic Studio.

Last December, I was finally going to upgrade my Logic Studio package from 8 to 9.

As new plans for Logic applications were unveiled, the 8 to 9-upgrade disappeared from my Apple Store cart.

I have contacted the local support, even talked to a Apple US product specialist, and while I really thank them for all of their very kind assistance, they could not help me, since the item is, simply, no longer available.

Let me say: I love my Logic Studio; I always praise its quality. When people ask me why my music productions are so great, I tell them everything about it, Mainstage, and so on.

I talk about Macs. I talk about iTunes. I talk about Garageband for iPad and all the iPhone apps as stunning frontiers to creativity.

And, of course, I remember Steve Jobs, and his unforgettable skills to bring us more and more amazing products. The vision of a company that it is not just "Steve's thing", but an unmatchable environment of people oriented to customers and innovation.

But fact is that, as Logic Pro and Mainstage migrated for good on the Mac App Store, I can not upgrade my Logic Studio anymore.

Moreover, at this current date, there is no Logic "10" version yet, or, as far as I know, a clear word about it, and even if I will be able to upgrade from my version (or not).

On the other hand, I can still buy a full Logic Studio 9 box - including a software that I appreciated, Soundtrack Pro 3, which is not available on the Mac App Store and it is now presumably discontinued.

Assuming that I want - and I want to pay for - an original Apple product, and I am not considering any "unofficial" options, my question is: how is it possible that a loyal customer can not upgrade its Apple software?

Could you, please, help me?

As The Beatles sang: "Don't let me down".

With best regards, sincerely,

Francesco Lo Forte

Hi Francesco,

I have Logic 9 Pro installed on my PowerPC Quad G5, but I do not have the DVD's. I also have SuperTrack installed that I got from a friend, but I would like the DVD's for the future in case I need them. From your discussions, do you know what upgrade package to look for if I want to upgrade from Logic 8 to Logic 9 Pro for my PowerPC?

Thank you,

You can't, Apple removed all upgrade ideas with the advent of the Mac App store. If you can find yourself a boxed upgrade from a retailer then you'll be fine, as any copy will work with PPC (all sold versions of Logic 9 are UB).

The problem with this of course, is that Apple stopped selling boxed upgrades to retailers around the same time they pulled upgrades from the App Store. The result is that upgrades are in short supply.
