I just got my apple TV and i had some movies in MP4 on my PC
I added them to my itunes account and i set up home share so i could access the content from the TV room.
I can see the movies there and I can play them. When i play them they are Zoomed in .. missing most of the movie screen. I've changed the TV settings but it stays the same
I've tried the movies on the PC and they play fine.
Is there a setting i need to change.

There are no settings that govern zoom on the Apple TV, there are only two reasons this might occur, either your TV doesn't support 720p or your TV settings are incorrect.
The TV is 1080p. it's a 42" LED 🙂
As for the settings. I was looking all over the remote and I can't see a zoom option. I went throught all the screen options but it was always zoomed in when changes screen size.
I'll have to read the TV manual to see where the zoom settings are.. probably in the Menu somewhere.
All my normal TV stations are ok.. and movies I rent from Apple Store are ok....
It's only when they are coming from itune library .. ones i've added myself.
As i've said they play on my PC normally and they play in itunes ok.. it's just from itunes -->>> Apple TV -->> on my TV that there are problem.. as i said normaly movies i rent are ok !

I didn't realise that purchased movies play alright, it is likely an encoding setting of some kind in that case, how are you creating these movies.
I'm ripping them from a normal DVD. They are converter to MP4 about 900-1000MB in size.
I'm using a convertor called 4videosoft - I use DVD shrink 1st to rip the dvd then 4video to make a mp4
Works fine on the PC.. only got the Apple TV and wanted to try convert my library
Unfortunately we cannot discuss methods of circumventing copy protection in these communities, and since it's clearly the software you are using that is your problem here, mentioning alternatives would break the ToU for these communities.
i thought if i purchased the DVD i was allowed add it to my collection.
I dont actually own a DVD player anymore...
It's difficult, are teenagers allowed alcohol in certain situations, maybe yes and maybe no, but if you don't allow it in your house, that's the end of the matter, you make the rules in your own home.
Users here will debate endlessly the legalities or the illegalities depending on their point of view, of circumventing copy protection, but it's all to no avail, since Apple don't want such discussions in their community and will remove such discussions swiftly if they breach their ToU. Sadly that will often remove legitimate advice which often benefits others, so we follow their rules for the good of the many.
Perhaps Google would be a better friend for you than these communities in this particular case, I cannot suggest alternative software to resolve your problem.
