The only solution I found that would work correctly with a crisp clear RGB digital signal was to connect my 2011 Thunderbolt iMac using a HDMI to DVI cable and an Mini DP/Thunderbolt 3 in one Ebay adapter.
You could also get a Apple or Ebay HDMI to DVI adapter for HDMI port equipped Macs, and then connect the DVI end to the Dell U2410 DVI-D 1 port.
I believe the only solution for this monitor is HDMI has to come out of the Mac and DVI go into the Dell U2410, for everything to work correctly.
I also disabled DDC/CI in the Dell's "Other Settings" menu.
One issue I did find is that the Dell U2410 backlighting would not turn off until the Energy Saver "Computer Sleep" time had expired and the hard disks went to sleep and the Thunderbolt port de-powered.
"Display Sleep" time expiring would only blank the U2410 display until computer sleep fully shuts everything down.
Display/Graphics:
if you have a brand new MBP (the late 2011 version) then i would get the thunderbolt to HDMI lead from amazon.
This is the lead that i have, and it gives BOTH video and audio, not something that adapters do. (none that i have come across)
Although the lead does say MidiDisplay, it does the job that you will want.
Dear sirs,
Please, I'm a pro photographer and I write this in order that you may help me troubleshoot a severe interface compatibility problem.
I'm having lots of trouble trying to interface my Mac Powerbook Pro model 15" i7 thunderbolt to my Dell monitor model U2410..
The problem lies in the fact that both appliances won't run properly together through the Thunderbolt connection interfacing. I have tested both the Powerbook as well as the Dell unit, and each runs perfectly in isolation, as long as both units are not connected together. I have even tested different connecting cables and adapters of several sorts. It happens that I must find a way to connect Dell monitor to the Mac Powerbook so that the full color palette potential is enabled at full speed, making use of all the capacity available from both appliances.
As my monitor works fine with other MacBook Pro units that are not thunderbolt, I do relate my concerns to apple system and not to Dell, I own this monitor for several years now, and never had trouble before Thunderbolt.
I wish to thank you in advance for your attention on this, hoping to hear from you the soonest.
Very Best Wishes,
Igor
Does the accepted answer give you a good quality in your monitor?
There seems to be lost of issues woth Dell U2410 and miniDP thunderbolt connection and there are many people in the forums asking for a solution.
- What's the exact setup you have? What cable have you used?
- Is the image quality perfect, are the fonts clear, can you use the RGB input color format in the monitor?
- If you open About my Mac -> More Info -> System Profiler ->Display/Graphics can you see the "Television: Yes" line under the Dell monitor setup?
Use a MiniDisplay port to HDMI cable or adaptor.
With the proper cable.
