In winWord, i.e. Word for windows? or Word for mac?

Your question refers to the generic problem of right-to-left (RTL) scripts. First of all, did you activate Arabic keyboard layout in System Preferences/Language and Text (or International in older systems)/Input Menu? If not, do it, then write in Arabic. If Word cannot handle RTL, you must choose something else, Nisus or Mellel are your best choices. As Mellel is created by an Israeli company, I assume do know how to handle RTL scripts, including Arabic and Hebrew.

Actually, all word softwares support arabic.

The little dirty secret is the Fonts. Some fonts support arabic and some dont unlike in Windows.

Why? I have no idea, but it works well with all word documents. Just keep trying the fonts one by one until you succeed.

Hope this puts an end to all arabic typing issues with Mac, Microsoft and all word softwares.

Hope Apple and Microsoft sees my comment and take the necessary changes. Thanks.

Please use the camera icon to provide a screenshot showing correct Arabic in Word for Mac, with the name of the font showing as well. That is really great news, but you are the only person I know of who is able to do this.

MS itself agrees if you ask them that MS Word for Mac does not support Arabic (or any Indic script).

The only partial exception I know of is if you get a MS Word for Windows document where they have embedded the Arabic font it may work when opened in MS Word for Mac.

Regarding your screenshot of Pages, that is normal known behavior. The font is not in fact Helvetica (which has no Arabic in it) but Geeza Pro. The bugs in Pages are not with basic display, but totally wrong cursor behavior, no direction control, and various other things that make it unsuitable for most purposes.

I am very interested to see connected Arabic in Word like that and will see if I can duplicate it.

Regarding your screenshot of Word, I cannot duplicate it, I only get the expected disconnected Arabic. I am sure that nobody will be able to duplicate it unless perhaps they have the font Arial Body CS, which is not part of MS Office for Mac or OS X. So for your contribution here to be helpful to anyone, you will have to provide a link for downloading that font.

PS As I mentioned earlier, it may be possible to duplicate your experience by using an Arabic document created in MS Word for Windows. For example if you go to this site

http://www.arabicbible.com/arabic-bible/word.html

and download one of the chapters, I think you can add, delete, edit, etc using MS Word for Mac in correct Arabic. This capability may be useful for some users, but I have not seen much interest in the past. Why MS Word for Mac can't do the same thing on its own I don't know.
