Pages (and other iWork software) crashes when using look-up

Whenever I use the look-up option in Pages it will display the pop-up but it won't go away when I click and after a while Pages will quit. I cannot reproduce the same problem in Safari, iCal or Mail but I can in Numbers and Keynote.

I am on a Macbook 6,1 running 10.7.2

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

Which version of Pages do you have. How did you acquire it?

Are you sure that you really did what you were urged to do :

my Uninstall_iWork '09 script

delete several files.

Among them are the font cache file which was named by Dale

and the Preferences file which is often the wrongdoer when the app fails.

May you quit Pages,

run this short script

--{code}

set p2p to "" & (path to preferences folder from user domain) & "com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist"

set p2c to "" & (path to library folder from user domain) & "Caches:com.apple.iWork.fonts"

tell application "System Events"

deletedisk itemp2p

deletedisk itemp2c

end tell

--{code}

restart the app.

If the app works flawlessly it's OK

If it doesn't, run this script:

--{code}

set p2f to (path tofonts folderfromuser domain)

tell application "Finder" to open p2f

--{code}

If there are fonts in the revealed folder,

use FontBook to disable them.

Pages may be more picky than FontBook upon fonts.

Some may be valid from FontBook point of view but wrong from Pages's one.

The two files are rebuilt if the App is able to run.

As it crash, it's not surprising that it doesn't rebuild them.

I wished to be sure that you really removed them.

Now that I am, I will re-read the crash report. Maybe I will find needed info.

When the Fonts folder is open, I guess that you see these files :

encodings.dir

fonts.dir

fonts.list

fonts.scale

If you see them, trash them. Maybe one of them is corrupted.

The files :

encodings.dir

fonts.dir

fonts.list

fonts.scale

are available in every folder embedding active fonts or in folders which embedded some which were removed later.

Spotlight doesn't reveal them by default because with this setting it doesn't scan the System's folders.

It's why I posted the short script opening the folder.

Alright, that fixed it! thanks. (I deleted all the ones you mentioned so I don't know which one exactly was the culprit)

Thank you very much for your steadfast support, it is my first time seeking help in the forums and I must say I am extremely impressed by everyone's commitment. Once again, thank you.

Thanks for the feedback.

Must I understand that you removed the files :

encodings.dir

fonts.dir

fonts.list

fonts.scale ?

If it's really that, I will probably add them to the set of files removed by my uninstaller.

Removing them can't hurt but it's the first time I thought that they may be the wrongdoers.
