Won't happen. You can only upgrade to the current version. 5.0.1 as of this writing.

There is no legitimate reason to put an earlier version of iOS on your phone. The only likely reason to want to do so is so it can be hacked/jailbroken. This will void the warranty and forfeit your right to support from Apple and on these forums.

**** DO NOT REMOVE THIS COMMENT! ****

**** THIS IS A LEGITIMATE APPLE DOWNLOAD LINK DIRECTLY FROM APPLE SERVERS! ****

As I stated before, this is the iOS 4.3.5 file that can be downloaded directly from Apple. It does not come from any other non-authorized source.You can download the file and apply it to your iPhone. After you have the file on your computer, open the iTunes app and after highlighting your iPhone's name in the in the lefthand Devices list, press and hold the Shift key for Windows or the Alt/Option key for Macs and then click the Restore button. Browse to the location of the file on your computer and select it. iTunes will then handle the process from that point forward. It will verify with Apple that this is indeed a legitimate iOS update for iPhone and install it on your phone.

I don't think I'm following you KiltedTim. I mean technically this IS an upgrade of iOS and not going the other way around. 4.3.3 to 4.3.5. If he Restored from a .ipsw linked above and had the phone in DFU mode, I think it would work. And if not, the editing hosts trick can be used. Surely, not voiding any warranties that route.

But maybe it just won't work. Who knows.

There is nothing inappropriate about this comment. It was likely removed before because you misrepresented to the hosts what I posted and they were too busy the first time to actually verify the link. This information has been legitimately shared in these forums many times without issue. This is not a comment explaining how to jailbreak an iPhone. This is not a comment explaining how to rollback an iPhone's iOS version.

Oh I know there's nothing inappropriate link. And I'm not saying he's rolling back the software. Example: iPhone 4 4.1 can not be updated to ios 4.3.5 because it is no longer sighned by apple it must be updated to iOS 5.0.1 that is currently sighned.

I believe that you are incorrect in your opinion. However, if that is what the OP or anyone else who uses these instructions encounters from Apple, I hope that they post here that this was the case. I would in future not post such a comment again. But that is not my experience with this process.

This is the note I received from the Apple Host as to why my comment was removed before;

Unfortunately, I had to remove a post you made due to it linking to older iPhone software on non-Apple sites. Please keep in mind that software licensed by Apple may only be distributed by sources approved by Apple.

That is not at all what I did in my comment.

I believe that you are wrong in your accessment of this process.

And if that is true, then no harm, no foul, the OP or anyone else can return here and report that the suggested process does not work at this date. And all that they are out is the time and the bandwidth to download the file from Apple's servers.

If every time someone posted a comment with inaccurate/incorrect information was reported to the hosts to be taken down this place would be much more sparse in the comment department.
