iTunes could not backup iPhone because the iPhone disconnected

I've tried seaching for an answer for this problem and can't find one that works. I've tried the basics and even restored my iPhone 4S (and restarted it). Yet, I still keep getting the above message every time I try to back up even though my iPhone is hardwired to my laptop. Any other ideas out there to solve this one?

Thanks!

My case is iPad 4.

Deleted the Backup files in Library > Application Support > MobileSync as told above.

iPad = iPad 4 iOS 6.1

iTunes = 11.0.1

Mac OS = 10.8.2

Original Apple lightening cable connects to USB port (has changed USB port but failed.)

Using iPhone 5 with the same iMac (same cable) and no problems in iPhone.

Try to do iCloud Backup, but not enough storage on the cloud. Check and read along the net to find a solution but none works in my case.

Please help

I've tried renaming the folder, but it still doesnt work. plus, the folder in iTunes/mobile backups is empty. But if I access it thru iTunes, the backup is there - any suggestions?

There isn't any antivirus and I've tried deleting the newer backups and it still isn't working.

I've just updated iOS 6 into a 3GS phone, the previous software was ios 3.3. The apps were transferred over in the process but the contacts and photos are in the backup which i need. PLEASE ADVISE

I am also having this problem on my 4th Generation iPod Touch. It only began happening after I updated iOS from 6.0.0 to 6.0.1.

When I sync, I get the message "iTunes could not backup the iPod because the iPod disconnected". The remainder of the Sync takes place fine.

I went into the Library folder and deleted the backup that was there. Now after a failed backup there is a smaller folder in its place.

I have tried a brand new USB cable, and I have tried every USB port directly on my Mac.

I have a PPC G5 Mac running Mac OS 10.5.8. iTunes 10.6.3. iPod 4th Generation iOS 6.0.1.

This problem is driving me crazy. I remember having a similar problem years ago with my iPod Touch 2nd Gen, but I can't remember how I resolved it.

I have held off updated iOS to 6.1, but tried the other day and the update would not proceed because the backup failed.

Should I just bite the bullet and restore my iPod?

Thanks

I think I may have found a solution.

I removed the current backup folder from ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/ as described above. I then restarted iTunes.

In iTunes I selected my iPod (connected) from the menu, and then enabled "Encrypt local backup". This prompted me for a password for the encryption, and then immediately began backing up the iPod. The backup went to completion! Of course, I am not really sure if this back up is not corrupt, but a few minutes later I told iTunes to back up the iPod, and it backed up without an error message.

I will post if the problem begins happening again.

Greetings all, I seem to be in the same boat. Because of my own negligence, somehow I've let this issue slip since september, my last successful update.

Nothing seems to be fixing it for me, but on top of this issue I also have a huge "other" section of my iphone storage, 13gb. And I'm having issues with the phone always having full storage.

Any thoughts?

I am in the same boat as the rest of the posters on this thread. I have a iPhone 4s with 6.1.3, rMBP with 10.8.2, and every time I try to backup the iPhone to the new MBP, it throws a "iPhone disconnected" at the end of the backup. I have tried changing from left side USB port to right side (No hubs in the mix), I have changed to a new cable, I have deleted the ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/ folder and restarted iTunes (and the entire MBP) between each try, I have tried encrypted backups, nothing works. I have NO BACKUP of this phone, I CANNOT wipe and start over. I live on a cell modem, so using iCloud is not an option to me, I just don't have the speed or bandwidth quota. Anybody think of anything I have not tried yet?

I'm having the same problem with my iPhone 5. Always show this 'disconnected' error when trying to backup. Have tried all the tricks I found here: Delete old backups (there were none because this is a new laptop), enable encryption, etc. none worked. I'm at loss for words.

Here's my devices:

iPhone5, iOS 6.1.3, rMBP, OS X 10.8.3, latest iTunes

Considering all the troubles I have had with iTunes over the years, I really really start to hate that piece of gabage.
