airport utility install fails

I've tried to install airport utility 6.0 through software update and it continually fails. The process has bricked the installed airport utility 5.6. I've gone to apple's support site and downloaded both installer packages and both fail as well.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for pointing this out, but I think everyone here is up to date on Lion or at least running 10.7.2. It seems that we have all been trying to run software update to access any update to Airport Utility and have been met with repeated failures during the install process. It seems to be much less of a "not running the right software version" as it is a "the Airport Utility doesn't seem to finish installing" issue. Also, after trying to run the installer, it corrupts our current version of Airport utility (5.5.3 or 5.6) so that we can't even access the software that was working correctly before the failed update. The only work around so far, has been to delete Airport Utility completely and to re-install a version that is not Airport Utility v6.0.

Latest and Greatest

Ok I updated to Lion 10.7.3 and attempted to update Airport Utility and yet again the installer failed. I tried both v.5.6 and v6.0 with no success...the only version that will load correctly is v5.3. Based on the latest attempt one can say without any doubt that the installers are seriously flawed and need to be looked at.

C'mon Apple fix this....

Same problem with Airport Utility 6.0 Will not install.

Also, Time Machine only backs up a few things and support cannot help.

Only machines in office that are reliable are those running Windows XP Professional.

This Mac is the least reliable. Not like the mythology at all.

Hi all...same here! Thought I was in an invisible minority...had to download AU 5.3.3 from Apple Downloads...trash what was left of it ⚠ after attempts to install version 6 (I needed to use Trash It! as Airport utility is "an essential part of OS X") and then restarted....THEN reinstalled 5.3.3 which now works fine....

It seems as far as I can see (and comparing my 2011 iMac here with my backup disk) that the version 6 installer (in all of our cases on the forum here) seems to remove certain airport components and/or hidden files without replacing them so that when the last phase of installation happens (moving items into place and restarting the installed app) the essential bits aren't there

This installer is duff for some people and not ready for prime time.

Still, on a good note, 5.3.3 seems much beter anyway....

..and actually the now old utility installed on my machines 5.5.3, won't even open on my machines because it's not meant for 10.7.3.

You might want to consider downloading and installing the correct AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion , which will provide much more functionality than AirPort Utility 6.0.

You can keep both 6.0 and 5.6 on your Mac (you cannot delete 6.0) and use the one that you want.
