I have tried to remove items from the System Pref/Accounts/login list but microsoft office for mac items continue to load automatically....any help is appreciated.

go to accounts & users in the system prefs and click on log in items and you will see a list of programs that launch on start up, delete the ones you don't what to start automatically.

To Stop Windows Opening on Start Up
System Preferences > General > uncheck Restore windows when Quitting and Re-opening Apps
go to System> library> start up folder and see if that app in there, delete it. I think that folder is call "start up" or something like that name.

Hi, I followed those instructions, but none of the programs that start up automatically on my Lion 10.7 were even listed in the Login Items.
Also, under System Preferences, "Accounts" isn't listed; instead, "Users and Groups." That's the closest thing I could find which led me to Login Items.
When you click restart there is an option that asks "reopen windows when logging back in" I unchecked this box and all of the programs quit opening on restart.
Have you tried twice or more to disable Microsoft Office on bootup?
