Can I uninstall and then re-install iCal?

Hi, I am having some issues with iCal and was wondering if I could simply trash it and somehow reinstall it. I have my calanders on iCloud and am running 10.7.2. Thanks for any advice.

I had an entirely different problem. None of my iOS devices were syncing to my OSX calendar events using iTunes. I don't use iCloud to sync since I got fed up with getting duplicate, triplicate, etc. calendar entries. Calendar sync using iTunes were giving me the following problem. The Calendars were showing up on all devices but the actual events were not. 3 weeks of 1 or 2 times per week on the phone with Apple support, uploading files, sharing screens, etc. didn't help. Although I must state that the lady at Apple (Porsche) who was trying to help gets an A+ for effort & friendly service. Nothing the Apple engineers said we should try worked. Finally I landed on this page and tried the above ie. moving the com.apple.iCal.plist file to the trash. After that, syncing across all my iOS devices using iTunes has worked again. I should add that I also updated all iOS & OSX devices to the latest (just released) versions as well. But just updating OSX/iOS versions didn't do anything on their own. Hope that helps someone else.

I am having an iCal problem on my MacMini server, same OS version. Is NOT happening on my Macbook Air. When opening iCal it continues this loop of trying to add new entries... which can go on forever. Can't get into preferences to remove the offending calendar because this happens upon opening ical and locks the app. Ideally, I'd like to uninstall iCal then reinstall. Any help?

Note: If you are using iCloud, deselect calendars in the iCloud preferences first. Then check to see if the problem is still there.

Quit iCal.

Select Go in the FInder and hold down the option key. Select Library in the submenu and a Finder window will open in the Home Library. Open the Preference folder and move the com.apple.iCal.plist file to the trash.

Restart iCal and see if it clears the problem.

I noticed you're running a server. I'm not really familiar with server software, so you may want to post a new topic of your own.

Although I have the server version of MacMini I have not configured it as one.

As I tried your suggestions, I received a new error messgae box: asking me to update my Google password. I user dual authentication with Google, which is why I suppose it's asking again. However, this issue, and the need to add some odd new entries, freezes the app so that I cannot either remove the calendar altogether, or update its password.

Removed from iCloud and deleted plist file. Didn't help. Any way to uninstall iCal? Other files to kill/trash?

Thanks for the help...

As I said, I wouldn't remove iCal.

Instead, create a new user account for testing. Once created, open iCal. If it's OK there, then there is nothing wrong with the application and it will do you no good to reinstall it.

If it works in the new user account, sign out of iCloud or deselect calendars in the prefs. Verify that your calendars are OK at the iCloud.com website and stay signed out of iCloud for now.

Open Mail, Contacts, and Calendars in system prefs and disable any google account calendar syncing and any other account you sync calendars with. See if the problem persists.

If the problem still persists, quit iCal. Go back into your Home Library folder and move the contents of the Calendars folder within your Home Library to the trash, but don't delete.

Open iCal and see if you can open it.
