iphone volume slider has disappeared

The volume slider on my iphone has disappeared and it wont play music from itunes, apps, videos or anything else I've tried. I have tried using the external volume controls on the side and its not on silent. I have also tried resetting a couple of times but this hasn't helped.

iPhone 4, iOS 5.0.1

Haha I was dealing with the same problem today

The volume would only work when the headphones were plugged in

And as soon as i took them out, the volume control went missing o.o

So as it turned out, it's either that your 32pin port is clogged up with dirt

Or you've somehow got water on your device so that the it thinks its connected to the doc.

Just take a thin brush and slide it across the pin port to remove the dust

Then with your finger or a small object, press down lightly on the sides

Hopefully, your colume control shoould be back :)

If you still haven't got it fixed you can try this YouTube video. I have the iPhone 4s the volume slider disappears, my keyboard won't make the clicking noise, music and videos stop playing. But if I go to settings and play the ringtones it works fine so do the earphones when I plug them in. This video got my phone fixed hope it helps. http://youtu.be/q3BAx8uZfVM by iCustomiPhone titled iphone 4 no volume bar fix

SOLUTION...With the face of the phone facing upwards, put a knife into the charger port, put it over to the right and gently move it up or down, do this whilst looking at your video/music on the screen, once you see the volume bar its fixed, remove the knife and enjoy! - i hope this helps! ;)

Similarly, I'd tried everything else - brushing, headphones in and out of the headphone jack, cut up business card... was reluctant to stick something metallic in the dock though.

So I tried with a credit card type of thing (one of those loyalty cards you get in shops). I didn't even need to cut it, just used a corner. Poked it upwards a few times, in the direction of the 'home' button. Worked almost instantly.

Very, very happy to have rescued my boyfriend's phone. Thanks everyone for posting their suggestions here 🙂

I have found a solution to this problem. Basically, there is some gunk and dust inside the ports of the phone that make the phone think it's connected to something, like a car, speaker, computer, etc. There may also have been water that got inside the charger port.

To fix this, just take a light, small brush, or a thin paperclip (with a piece of napkin around it - optional) and feel around inside the port for some time. Occasionally, take out the brush or paperclip to wipe off the dirt before sticking back in to clean. Once you're done with that, just reboot the phone by holding the sleep/wake button until the power off screen appears. Once it's rebooted, the device should be fine. You may not even have to reboot.
