I have just got apple tv but it's being really slow to download anything. I'm trying to download a film and it's saying it's going to take 2 and a half hours to download it. Similarly even downloading clips are really slow. Is there any reason for this? Is this to be expected?

Seems to be an issue with New Zealand users. Were all using a variety of different ISP's and have different newtork setups but we are ALL now experiencing the same performance problem!
Got to be a change at Apple's end.
Sounds like speed is fine, and looked as though the users were using the ISP DNS. I would look into something on the ISP's end, or something about the location, before looking at Apple (it would be a wider issue if this were the case at any rate)
Have you tried looking into interference, if on wifi? Trying a different network, taking into Apple to test?
I have spoken with the ISP and they have not made any changes or attempted to throttle sites.
I am hardwired to the router via ethernet cable. I have also tried using the Wi'Fi. The experience is the same so it's not interference or a network issue. Also other NZ users are with different ISP's and experiencing the same issue.
It does appear to be a wider issue but limited to New Zealand users. Therefore likely to be some at Apple's end.
I might try and take it into a store.
It would be a wider issue if the majority of users were experiencing this, it appears to be related to location rather than ISP, but see what Apple says when you take it in
