ALERT !!!!

I've just -stupidely it seems- run the latest security update and I' can't open Appleworks anymore .

I experienced the same problem with Soundtrack some monthes ago after another security update .

It 's simply scandalous that Apple under cover of "security" disables old applications to make you buy new ones .

And what about all the existing docs you can no longer access ?

I too am facing the stark reality of leaving AppleWorks behind, and I too am not very happy about it!

Leaving the principles aside (if I get on my soapbox this post will run to many pages) I was wondering how similar FileMaker Pro is to the AppleWorks database.

Back in the days of ClarisWorks, the bundled package was sold as being a natural way in to learning the full featured version of each package. i.e. if you could use the ClarisWorks database but were starting to reach its limitations, you could buy FileMaker and you were already well on the way to knowing how to use it.

So is this still the case?

If I buy FileMaker Pro 11, will I recognise it as being related to AppleWorks or will I have start again?

Filemaker Pro has considerable similarities with the AppleWorks database but there are sufficient differences to mean that there is a learning curve: and it has many additional facilities. This page may help:

Note that neither Filemaker Pro nor any other program will open an AppleWorks database.
