Rosetta Problems after Security Update 2012-001

My crack team of sys admins and I have devised a method for resolving some of the issues regarding the Security Update 2012-001 and Rosetta.

http://www.educate-it.org/content.php?130-Rosetta-Issue-after-Security-Update-20 12-001

Click this link for an Installer that will revert the files necessary for some Rosetta apps to run after the Security Update. This is a band-aid and is only recommended in emergency situations. Apple is currently working on a fix, but until that happens, we are stuck with reverse-engineering their update. I hope this helps those in distress from this update.

MacBook Pro, Other OS, It's not listed here..... Roar.

Backup files off the computer (not TimeMachine) and disconnect.

If you have TM, or a option key bootable clone use that to erase and restore from.

If not, c boot off the 10.6 disk, use Disk Utility to >Repair Disk and Permissions, (do not format or erase!!) and simply re--install 10.6 from the disk. Note: Does not touch your files and most programs, but backup your files regardless.

Note: If Disk Repair gives a error that is not repaired, then you have to consider erasing the drive (with Zeros) and try reinstalling 10.6 fresh or replacing the drive.

Reboot and log in, update to 10.6.8, it should not include the security update at this time (second pass it might show) because it was just released and they might need to pull it. (they need to pull it)

When you reboot, make sure to reinstall any programs that installed kext files into OS X, you'll know, they won't work.

If you get gray screen, hold the shift key and update your installed software so it's compatible with 10.6.8.

Mr. Morris,

Your efforts are HUGELY appreciated. Unfortunately, they didn't do anything for us.

Fortunately, we have two functional laptops downstairs that we were smart enough to NOT do security updates on.

My trust in Apple just plummeted.

Twenty-seven years of trust down the security toilet, partly because of the catastrophic effects, but mainly because of Apple's silence when their customers need them the most.

Jobs is spinning in his crematorium urn at this moment.

The fix worked for me although I did the manual method of replacing the affected folder,ImageIO, with the one from my cloned HD. I assume that is what your installer does.

Anyway now both of my PCC apps, Quicken and Mailwatch, work as before. Can print and export with Quicken and MailWatch launches and works properly.

Thanks so much, but still want something from Apple.

I found a solution on this discussion (in french but if you want I can traslate that for you) with the help of Lionel (check on the discussion) !

My MS Office 2004 is now working again and Rosetta is fully OK.

If you want a traduction of the solution, ask me !

You just need a "new" framework (offered by Lionel on this discussion) and reboot your engine (and maybe use Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature).

My MS Office 2004 works perfectly, thanks to the Mac users (and not Appel 😠)

Because I spent an hour on the phone with their engineers before devising the fix that I posted links to. I have resources outside the normal channels of operations and have been using them to communicate the issue to the engineers. They know about the problem, are working on a fix, but in the meantime, we resorted to fixing it ourselves.
