Snow Leopard Security Update Warning

Since I haven't seen it mentioned yet on this forum, for those of us still using Snow Leopard, there is a growing number of reports that the latest security update hoses Rosetta. See the Snow Leopard forum elsewhere in the Apple Support Communities as well as http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/snowleopard/index.html#d02feb2012

Since I didn't install the Security Update, I didn't lose Rosetta, so I haven't tried the following, but in this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3704759?answerId=17484448022#17484448022 there is a discussion of a possible solution. The Google translation of the referenced link here: http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.macbidouille.com%2Fin dex.php%3Fshowtopic%3D354758%26st%3D60&tl=en suggests it's an easy fix, at least if you've got a backup or Time Machine backup. Again, I haven't tried this so use at your own risk, but it sure looks easier than reinstalling Snow Leopard.

I opted to re-install. 40 minutes after starting from 10.6.3 Installer I has 10.6.3 in place, used software update and manually downloaded the 10.6.8 combo updater, and I was back in business in about an hour and a half.

Security Update (Snow Leopard) 2012-001 version 1.0 is still being offered, and i see no new articles on the subject.

Yes it does.

I have a brother laser printer which is set up as a network printer.

This is my computer by the way.

And I am using an Apple Airport Extreme wireless connection.

As an update, maybe with good news, Software Update now shows a version 1.1 of the Security Update. As of right now, there does not yet seem to be an updated version on Apple's support website. Since I didn't install the original, I don't know if 1.1 would be offered by Software Update as a fix if the original was installed. And I'm sure not going to try 1.1 to see if the original issue was fixed.😉

I reinstalled Snow Leopard X.6.0 to fix the surity update problem, but when I tried to update using the OS X.6.8 combo upgrade, I got a message saying my volume did not "meet the requirements" for the upgrade. I'm stuck at X.6.0, not good enough for later applications. The same thing happened on both my Mac Pro and MacBook Pro. Why the problem with the upgrade and is there a workaround?
