Jumping cursor came back after 10.7.3 upgrade

Hello,

since the upgrade to 10.7.3 on my MacBook Air (4GB mem) I am facing the problem with the jumping cursor again. I had this a while ago when using a Logitech M510, switched then to a Magic Mouse which worked fine.

The cursor is not moving when I don't touch the mouse (I see some other people having that problem which is even more annoying) but when I move the mouse the cursor is following, then stopping, moving again etc.

Now, with 10.7.3, this problem came back, so I assume it's directly related to the upgrade. And I have it with both devices now, the Logitech and the Magic Mouse.

Anyone else here, having similar problems after upgrading to 10.7.3.?

At this moment, I am using a Kensington mouse on my mid 2011 MBA running 10.7.3 with no issues at all. I'll have to try my Magic Mouse.

Did you use Software Update, or the Combo update from the Apple downloads site? Not that I'm trying to connect anything, but thare have been unrelated issues with the last Software Update application of the 10.7.3 update.

Hello,

meanwhile I did some more testing, and I think/hope I came a bit closer to the solution.

As Krist wrote the client combo update didn't fix this problem. But today, by purce chance, I discovered that the problem only occurs when iTunes is running. I worked the whole day today using only one program (I work for Citrix, and used our Receiver to connect to my XenDesktop landscape), and had ZERO problems, no jumping cursors. Actually I did not pay attention to it at all in the first place. Tonight I thought I could play a bit of music while cleaning up my desk, start iTunes, et voila, the jumping cursor problem is back. I stop iTunes, it's gone. I start more apps like Chrome, Word, Excel, Safari, ... all together ... no problems. I restart iTunes, guess what? The cursor jumps again.

Could please someone test this on another system and tell us here if you see a similar behaviour?

Hahaha.... I don't know how you figured that out.. But you are right!! I opened iTunes and my cursor started going nuts again... I tried turning down the speed and thought that was helping.. then I turned the speed back up and thought wow.. its not jumping at all. But I didnt have itunes open..

Thank you for stumbling across this fix. Hopefully Apple will make a permanent one soon.. 🙂

I spoke too soon and it's possible that I have a different problem.

After turning my second display off (attached via Displayport) the mouse started skipping again. I guess this is a known issue with using a display connected via the Mini-Displayport. I turn the display on and the skipping stops, I turn the display off and the skipping starts again. If unplug the Mini-Displayport connector all is well. Of course it's really only noticable when iTunes is open. Here's more on it...

After installing all possible updates, turning off all settings, etc. nothing worked. I was going crazy, and I knew I hadn't dropped my computer or anything since the problem began. I use my computer for work, and it has really slowed me down.

I found in a couple old forums to try re-setting the PRAM. This had been advised by a technical advisor in the past, and I was pretty desperate, so I tried it. So far, the problem seems to be improved. Not better, but much improved. The problem is, ALL, and I mean ALL of your preferences are deleted. I opened up a computer to the Lion desktop image and Word started asking me my username and everything. Nothing else seems lot, but as you can imagine, starting fresh is frustrating.

In moments of desperation, I can suggest trying it if you've exhausted all other options. I guess one way to check this before resetting is to make a new account on your computer. If the cursor is normal there, resetting the PRAM can fix your problem. I was about to throw my computer against a wall, so I didn't try that.
